The World's Presentations in Your Pocket
April 16, 2014
When we began building SlideShare's Android app, we had three goals in mind: to make you more productive, to help you learn something new, and to make your day a little more interesting.
With that in mind, we focused on creating a few key features that would make this app something you would want to pull up every day. Here's a peek inside our app, along with tips for making the most of it. We invite you to take it for a spin, and let us know what you think!
1) Content Just For You
Want to know the latest in mobile trends? Or perhaps you're more interested in design strategy or career advice. Either way, our new app brings you presentations based on your interests and network of friends and colleagues. On your home screen you will find:
- Presentations uploaded by your LinkedIn and Facebook connections
- Trending SlideShares in your network
- Latest decks on topics of your choice
- Daily Editor's picks
Tip: Make sure to sign in via LinkedIn or Facebook to see presentations from your network. Want more? Click Explore and browse through our library of 15 million presentations.
2) Quickly Browse Through Presentations
We know mobile usage is very much about quick consumption on-the-go. This is what guided our designer, Jesse Venticinque, in coming up with an awesome way to quickly swipe through presentations without ever leaving your feed of content. Once you discover a presentation you like, you can view it in full-screen mode, which we believe is the best mobile viewing experience for presentations out there today -- if not, let us know how we can get there! Try it out during your next commute or on the way to your next cocktail party, and show up with interesting insights and conversation topics.
Tip: Don't have time to read the full presentation right then and there? Save it for later (see below).
3) Your Presentations, All in One Place
We know you can't always read everything when you want to. Or perhaps you have one deck you reference often and need quick access to it. Store presentations you want to read later or want to easily access in the “Me” section of our app. In the “Me” section you will find:
- Saved Offline: Want to read a presentation later or offline? Simply click the Save button and it will be stored in your "Me" section, viewable anytime, anywhere.
- Your Uploads: Practice your VC pitch in between meetings! All presentations you upload to SlideShare via the web -- both public and private -- will be accessible here.
- Your Favorite Decks: All the presentations you have "liked" can also be found here.
Tip: Presentations you "like" in the app are synced with SlideShares you "like" on desktop.
4) Share Your Favorites
Find a deck perfect for your boss or friend? You can easily share it via email or text message, or post it on social media. Go ahead, impress your colleagues and friends with new insights and information!
Tip: Share presentations directly to your phone contacts via text message.
While we hope you like the app, we also know there are so many features we can add -- and we are working on them! Let us know how we should prioritize our development efforts and how we can make our app better.
