Should Students Be Allowed To Fail In Elementary School
I believe that students in elementary school should not be allowed to advance to the next grade
if they are failing because if they do then they will not be able to pass grade that they will be
going in to. The student will not understand the new stuff that is being handed to them. He or she
will have a harder time understanding what is being taught. The student will keep moving forward
and won t learn anything and will be a highschool dropout. If the student is held back then that
means they did not learn the skills they ll need for the next grade. Keeping them back will mean
they will get a 2nd chance to learn what they will need for the next grade. If they have trouble then
they can ask the teacher for help. Keeping them back will not hurt

In this paper an excerpt titled Theoretical from Engels Anti DhГјring will be examined in reference
to Engels ideologies regarding materialism, the social work order, and the fundamental problems
confronted in the clash between the social production and capitalist appropriation.
In the chapter titled Theoretical, Engels lays out the basic conflict between what we know as
socialism and capitalism, doing so by first examining what he calls the Materialist conception of
history (Engels 1939, p. 292). In his materialistic history he claims that the exchange and bartering
of products, and their production is the basis of every social order (Engels 1939, p. 292). He states
that in every society that has ever appeared in history, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

294) Thus small workshops slowly became obsolete, being replaced by gargantuan factories
where hundreds of peoples would come to produce a product together. The fundamental issue
that arises however is this: in Feudalism, and in earlier times it was clear who the owner of the
product of labor was, the individual producer had produced it, as a rule from raw material which
belonged to him, and often was also produced by himself... (Engels 1939, p. 295) As a result of
this, there was never any need to appropriate the product to him, as it belonged to him as an
absolute. (Engel 1939, p. 295) The problem here is that this idea continued on even after social
production had taken the place of individual producers, and the Social products were treated as if
they were still...the products of individuals. (Engels 1939, p. 295) Now the owner of the
instruments of labor continued to appropriate the product, although it was not longer his product,
but...the product of other s labor. Thus therefore, the products now socially produced were not
appropriated by those who had really set the means of production in motion and...produced the
products, but by the capitalists. (Engels 1939, p. 295)
Therefore the original contradiction in capitalism can be summed up as such: The mode of
production is subjected to

What Is Abortion Still Killing
Killing is still killing. In America, a very controversial issue is abortion. It is unfortunate that
this is even considered eristic. A child, no matter what age, is still a child. Many people have
tried making this out to be something it is not; people will try to say that in the womb, an
unborn child is only a glob of flesh. This line of thinking is incredibly precarious, as well as
downright deranged. A child in the womb is alive, aborting a baby is hazardous and unnatural, the
methods used to slaughter these innocents are barbaric and strictly against God s plan for human
life. Murder will never solve anything. A baby in the belly, no matter what, is still a living being.
At just 9 weeks, nearly 2 months of pregnancywhere most women... Show more content on

This is incorrect because there is a small life within a woman s womb at this point, it is no longer
simply her body, this becomes a shared residence, one where a different growing body now lives.
Along these lines, it is also incredibly unnatural and harmful to a woman s body at this point to
remove the growing fetus. Some very immediate potential complications of an abortion would
include heavy bleeding, infection, incomplete abortion, sepsis, anesthesia, damage to the cervix,
scarring of the uterine lining, uterine perforation, damage to internal organs, pelvic inflammatory
disease, endometriosis, and even death. The list continues with the emotional complications such
as eating disorders, relationship problems, guilt, depression, flashbacks of abortion, suicidal
thoughts, sexual dysfunction, alcohol and drug abuse (studentforlife.org). The ugly truth is that a
mother will form a both physical and emotional bond with her child, even before she is aware of
the pregnancy, this bond is not easily erased. A woman may even experience complications, long
after an abortion, including breast cancer, cervical, ovarian, and liver cancer, ectopic pregnancy
and placenta previa. If this is what is meant by your body, your choice it doesn t add up that any
woman would choose

The Economic And Social Cost Of Illiteracy
The World Literacy Foundation released a report on illiteracy in 2012 sharing this devastating
news, Shockingly, more than 796 million people in the world cannot read or write. About 67
million children do not have access to a primary school education and another 72 million miss out
on secondary school education (Melbourne, The Economic Social Cost of Illiteracy ). Complete
illiteracy is defined as, a person who cannot read or write at all (Melbourne, The Economic Social
Cost of Illiteracy ). However, there is another kind of illiteracy. This illiteracy is commonly known
as functional illiteracy. Function illiteracy, means an individual may have basic reading, writing
and numerical skills but cannot apply them to accomplish tasks that are necessary to make
informed choices and participate fully in everyday life (Melbourne, The Economic Social Cost
of Illiteracy ). Illiteracy brings multiple negative effects to an individual and his or her family.
The effects of illiteracy include: life threatening health issues, lower incomes and inability to
succeed in his or her career, and it increases crime rates. First, illiteracy carries life threatening
health issues. If someone is illiterate, he or she will be unable to comprehend medical records and
assessments. Thus, never fully understanding their diagnosis, or their treatment plan options. Erin

Gary (Sherman) Snyder was born in San Francisco on May 8 in 1930 to the parents of Harold

Development and Further Enlargement of European Union
ACCESSION CRITERIA: HISTORY OF DEVELOPMENT AND FURTHER ENLARGEMENT
OF THE EU: WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO TURKEY
Building of the European Union (EU) is a political project intended to eradicate returning wars and
to fortify autonomous values, prosperity, and constancy on the European continent 1. The plan of
European Union come out and developed in the course of history, and Turkey has been an element
of this common history and tradition. The Ottoman Empire, modern day Turkey s governmental
ancestor, had its most expanded provinces in the Balkans started in 14th century. For almost five
centuries, the Ottoman Empire was a significant player in the region and a component of the
Concert of Europe1. Also to its profound historic line, Turkey s relationships with Europehave been
revived with current geopolitical growths. Turkey plays a moderating function in the European
border as a not religious and autonomous country. A lot of people argue that abiding change in
Turkey on its way to EU succession may fortify Turkey s stabilizing function with relationships to
its neighbors and in the EU, and therefore add to safety in Europe2. Moreover, Turkey is a regional
power and that adds to regional safety in the Middle East, and consequently, in the US. Turkey s
succession might as well lessen the cultural segregations in Europe, particularly those pertaining to
immigration and the assimilation of Muslims into European societies. The subsequent curriculum
will give a wide setting

Imagine instead of learning how to ride a bike and tie your shoelaces, you were learning how to
cope with living at a hospital, painful routine testing, and the uncertainty of tomorrow. This is what
childhood looks like for thousands of kids worldwide who are battling cancer and other diseases.
Without organizations such as ALSAC (American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities) and St.
Jude Children s Research hospital, many of these children would never get the chance to live. What
is so unique about St. Jude is that, according to their annual report (2015), approximately 75% of

The Importance of Heeding Literary Omens: Of Mice and Men The novel, Of Mice and Men, by
John Steinbeck, depicts the unfortunate tale of two men traveling in search of labor. Lennie Small,
and George Milton, born and raised in Auburn, settle in Salinas valley making their living as ranch
hands. Conflict arises as Lennie struggles to heed George s words and eventually Lennie suffers his
downfall at the hand of his best friend. John Steinbeck used foreshadowing in, Of Mice and Men, to
express and reveal the sentiments behind characters actions and personalities throughout the
novel, demonstrating the importance of foreshadowing to deepen the understanding of major
events in a novel. The author utilizes the setting of the book to foreshadow the differences in
Lennie and George s characters. Before they are introduced, Steinbeck describes the diverse
region of mountains and streams close to George and Lennie s destination. The area is separated
by a river with one side harboring, golden foothill slopes [which] curve up to the strong and
rocky Gabilan mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees willows fresh and
green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the winter s flooding,
(Steinbeck 1). Steinbeck uses the contrast in the opposite sides of the river to foreshadow the
variation in the mental and physical aspects of his two main

Cushing s is a disease in which you have an abnormally elevated level of cortisol. There are two
major types of Cushing s. The first type of Cushing s is rare and is called Cushing s Disease , it s
cause by an endogenous factor, which means that something goes wrong inside your body. This
type is usually characterized by the body s own overproduction of ACTH, Which controls Cortisol.
Other internal factors that may cause Cushing s Disease is a pituitary gland tumor (can be benign
or cancerous and is the most common), an ectopic tumor that secretes ACTH, an adrenal adenoma

for increasing glucose, to the blood. After glucagon enters the blood it will go to the target cell to

which will then secrete glucose to the blood thus increasing the blood glucose levels. This is an
example of positive feedback. Once the receptors in blood detect that the glucose in the blood is
increasing, the target cells will then send a signal to the to stop the stimulation of glucagon. This is

human beings that we are in present terms. Whether if the situation pertains to education or not,

Moving For Children
Moving is a stressful time for everyone, but it is especially daunting for children who may not
fully understand what is happening. Easing the transition for young children makes moving a
smoother and happier process for all involved. Here are some tips for helping your kids adjust to
the moving process.
Toys and Treasures
While moving is a great time to clean house and get rid of clutter, think twice before donating
unused toys. Instead, pack them up and place them in storage. This way you ll have then after your
move and can reintroduce them to your children in the new home. Finding old treasures in the new
home lends comfort to children.
Pack Smart
Wait as long as you can to pack up your children s favorite toys since they will need something to
play with throughout the move. When you do start packing toys, do so when your children are
sleeping or away from home. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While there is nothing wrong with adding some new decor, it is comforting for children to have
their familiar bed and bedroom furniture in the new home. If possible, try to arrange your child s
bedroom furniture the same way in the new home as it was in the old one.
Unpack With Purpose
Focus on unpacking and organizing your kid s bedrooms first. This allows them to have a homey,
comfortable space immediately in the new home. When you begin unpacking the rest of the house,
do so methodically. Only unpack what you can put away immediately. Unpacking too soon is
chaotic and results in stressful clutter. Find a home for everything you unpack as soon as you take
it out of the box.
Perhaps the most crucial trick for moving with children is to stay as calm and upbeat as possible.
Your children take their cues from you, so project a confident and happy demeanor about your
move. Soon you will all be comfortably settled into your new home and resuming your old

Examples Of Skepticism In The Truman Show
The Truman Show introduces us to a man named Truman who is living a fake life, a life in
which everything around him has been scripted out by a director of a television show. He was
adopted at birth and raised inside a television studio that was made to resemble the real world.
However, Truman is unaware that he has been the star of a television show since birth and thanks
to free will, he continues to live life as a normal person. Meanwhile, the director, Christof attempts
to control every aspect of Truman s life as if to lead him to take certain actions and to think a

the ancient Greeks. Nevertheless, it was Descartes who placed this ... Show more content on

Given the logical possibility that such a creature exists, how can we be certain that our beliefs
about the world are not radically mistaken? How, Descartes asked, can we be certain that we are all
not utterly deceived? The Truman Show presents a similar skeptical problem, but in the most
convincing of ways. Christof is clearly the evil genius that Descartes described, but whereas
Descartes fatal demon is a creature of pure fantasy, the character of Christof and the conspiracy
that he orchestrates seem dangerously real. In Descartes Second Meditation he says, I suppose,
then, that all the things that I see are false, I persuade myself that nothing has ever existed of all
that my fallacious memory represents to me . In the Truman show, Truman finds himself believing
that the world around him is the real world, however he is being deceived. Would Truman have
been better off believing Descartes words? Descartes attempts to question how he is supposed to
understand the world around him as real. Through thinking and questioning, Descartes knows
himself, and his mind to be real. However, he still has an uncertainty about the world around him.
Descartes concludes the Second Meditations by posing that, because it is

My Composition Class Analysis
Upon entering college, I was actually quite nervous about what to expect from my Composition I
class. I d seen the films, read the articles and heard from others about all the insane deadlines and
stress that came with that. I never enjoyed writing or English class in general, but taking
Composition I has changed my views on both. This class has benefitted me in several ways, as
both a student and a writer. I have learned how to write more effectively, expanded my writing
methods, and learned how to properly use different grammar techniques. At the start of the fall
semester, I remember doing a Getting Started assignment where I described my weaknesses and
goals for the course. This class has changed my perspective on English classes, and... Show more

Nevertheless, I believe that there will always be something from my writing that could use

Environmental Justice And Gentrification Of The United...
Final Paper
Environmental Justice and Gentrification
The United States and its population pride themselves on setting the trend. Whether it s the newest
clothing line, the best recording artist, or a slightly more important issue, Americans pride
themselves in setting the pace on issues for the rest of the world. One issue that has caught our
attention is the term urban greening . This is defined as taking an urban area and making it more
green by adding parks, building green roofs on apartments, or closing power plants and other
harmful industrial areas to create a more environmentally safe area (Brasuell, 2014). When a low
income area, with many undesirable environmental qualities, starts becoming greener, it causes a
negative effect on that population (Regan, n.d). While their housing is now better, the
neighborhood becomes increasingly desirable, causing a spike in cost of living and other
expenses. Now that the rent has increased, the original tenants cannot afford the new prices, and
they are forced to move out. This process is called environmental gentrification . This term has
sparked numerous debates due to it s two polar opposite sides. While environmental justice strives
to provide equal development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws and quality,
these qualities are what makes low income areas desirable. Imagine a low income area in New York
City, where a neighborhood is next to several production plants and is not near any

The Pros And Cons Of Lowering The Drinking Age
As teenagers ourselves, we know that most will want to be rebellious at some point. An illegal
option, alcohol makes for a perfect way for teens to be rebellious. With a minimum legal
drinking age of 21, many teenagers are able to use drinking as a rebellious act. If the drinking
age were 18, it would be different. A 19 year old could not drink to rebel. A large part of what
makes alcohol so appealing to teenagers is its forbidden nature. Forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest.
People want what they cannot have. Having a minimum legal drinking ageof 18 would eliminate the
desirable forbidden aspect, thereby making drinking less attractive to teens.
Pretend two teenagers are drinking. One gets hurt and needs medical attention. It is likely that the
other teen will hesitate to take the injured friend to get the needed attention due to fear that they
will both get in trouble. Lowering the drinking will eliminate this situation. It will reduce the
number of underage people having alcohol related injuries due to fear of the consequence.
According to the article Should the Drinking Age Be Lowered from 21 to a Younger Age? , 17
states and Washington, DC will allow underage drinkers to report injuries without punishment.
That means in 33 states, injuries could be going untreated out of fear. Recently, a 20 year old died
at a Florida State College fraternity party where police found alcoholic beverage bottles
(Hechtman). Medical personnel could have helped the student if his peers

Catholic Education Research Paper
I cannot describe what Catholic Education means to me currently without recalling what it once
meant to me. Catholic Education meant different things to me at different stages of my life. From
kindergarten to around grade 5, Catholic Education was just education. I knew public schools
existed. I understood that Catholic schools engaged students in the Catholic faith. Like my peers I
would pray, listen during religionlessons, and sit cross legged on the gymnasium floor, cramped
together with 500 other students. The masses meant nothing to me. (They really just meant
discomfort because my legs would always fall asleep.) I listened to most lessons passively all the
time, and religion lessons were no exception. Prayers were only memorized... Show more content

I came to conclusions about my faith and Catholic Education. Catholic Education still does not
mean much to me. However, it brings together people who (most of the time) come from a
Catholic/Christian backgrounds, and creates a sense of community. For that I appreciate
Catholic Education. What I do not find as nice about Catholic schools is that despite being
centred around religion, people in Catholic schools can be just as mean spirited, rude, and
uncompassionate as people in public schools, if not worse. I am aware that it is unrealistic to
assume that those in Catholic schools are all wonderful people, but I find reality ironic. In my
opinion, Catholic Education is like public education, except Catholic students have school masses
and are obligated to take religion courses. As I introduced previously, being subject to Catholic
Education and those devoutly religious for the better part of 13 years has guided me to my brand
of Catholicism so to speak. Catholic Education has inadvertently, or possibly intentionally, started
me off on my own spiritual path by showing me what I do not like about Catholicism (eg. the
belief that not going to church is bad). Spirituality and personal religious beliefs are lifelong works

Summary OfVideotape By Don Delillo
Imagine capturing a homicide on film by accident when you are just a child. Well in this short
story titled Videotape by Don DeLillo which was published in 1994, a young girl by the age of 12
was recording with a video camera when she caught a murder. The story is being told by a man
who is watching this footage over and over again. He is clearly in awe and shock of what he is
witnessing in the video. Witnessing a murderis not easy for some people, and sometimes people do
not know how to react to these type of things.
Donald Richard Don DeLillo was born on November 20, 1936 in New York City. He is a well
known and beloved author who is adored by many, he has also won the Pulitzer Prize twice. The
story is being told by a man who is watching the tape over and over again. He is narrating the story
in first person and explaining the events that have transpired already. This gentleman cannot believe
what he is watching because he is in shock of how it happened.
There is no particular setting for this place but if there has to be one, it would be on the road or
highway to be more exact. The events of the murder already took place because the man is
looking back at it on the video. The present day would be wherever the man is currently at. In this
story, there are basically only three main characters. The girl who is videotaping is the main one
of the story and the one that we the audience follow. The second main character would be the older
man who got killed in the video.

Natural Disaster Indonesia Essay
Disaster, both natural and man made, are increasing in their frequency and catastrophic impact in
Indonesia. Natural hazards like landslides, avalanches, floods and debris flows can result in
enormous property damage and human casualties in mountainous regions (Matternicht, 2005).
Earthquake, flood, landslide, subsidence are only a few to mention (Walter et al., 2008; Abidin
et al., 2009, Chini et al., 2008; US. Geology Survey, 2006; Tsuji et al., 2009). The term natural
disaster has been brought as a common vocabulary to our daily life as news bringing information
on natural disaster is occurring in any parts of our planet recently. Planet Earth provides us with
the air, food, warmth, and materials we need to thrive. But Earth can also generate catastrophic
disasters, from tsunamis and landslides to tornadoes and wildfires, that kill people, damage the
environment, destroy property, and disrupt normal life. Such disasters may be sudden and violent,
like an earthquake or flood, or gradual, like drought or the spread of a deadly disease. Due to the
lack or inadequate disaster prevention and mitigation strategies in Indonesia, the impact of disasters
which they do occur is much greater than in other developed countries. Disaster detection and
monitoring are essential aspect in disaster mitigation and it s conventionally done by ground survey.
Nowadays, remote sensingplays important role in disaster mitigation.

Summary OfThe Assault By Harry Mulisch
In The Assault , the author, Harry Mulisch, depicts Anton Steenwijk as the protagonist, who
witnesses the violence at the night of the assault. In the subsequent years, Anton distances himself
from the truth of the assault due to his traumatic experience, his incomplete knowledge towards the
event, and his sorrowful memories. The traumatic experience makes Anton reluctant to go back to
Haarlem, where the violent assault takes place. The assaultgives Anton a strike, and many times in
the story, he pledges never to go back to Haarlem. For example: He shouldn t have come; he should
never have returned to Haarlem. He should have buried all that, the way one buries the dead
(Mulisch 61). It can be inferred that deep in Anton s mind, what happens at that night is the most
horrible moment to him, and such unforgettable memories remind him of never coming back. The
parallel structure here shows a complex mindset that Anton has when he hesitates to return to
Haarlem. The author uses consecutive should and shouldn t stresses this tone. The all that here
probably means all the tragic events happen in Haarlem, including both the assaultand deprivation
of Anton s parents. Also, the author uses an analogy, that Anton should forget all the things in
Haarlem and never think about them again, because it is a disgraceful memory of Anton, just
like someone should bury the dead to wipe away the mournful memories. Besides, Anton swears
never to go back to Haarlem even if a job offers him a hundred thousand gulden a year. (61) This
shows Anton is resolved not to go back to Haarlem. His reluctance to return is quite logical:
Haarlem is a place teeming with unjoyful memories, and a place where his house is burnt, and his
parents are lost. Who likes to return to a place where such sorrowful recollection flows? It is the
presence of his traumatic experience that haunts Anton and holds him from going back and seeing
the place again. In the aftermath of the violent assault, Anton develops a psychological distance that
makes him too sorrowful to accept the truth. The sorrow of his can be seen when Anton meets his
former neighbor, Karin. As Once more the old bitterness welled up, the inexhaustible bitterness.

What Is The Theme Of The Oxen By Thomas Hardy
In synopsis, at that point: the sonnet s speaker inclines upon a forest entryway and perspectives
the land around him as an image of the occasions of the nineteenth century, the Century s cadaver
outleant ; the speaker is made a piece of the scene, not only a confined eyewitness, as outleant
echoes the speaker s own activity toward the begin of the ballad ( I leant upon a coppice door ).
The century is biting the dust ( sepulcher , demise regret ) since it is at its end, yet in addition
since something has kicked the bucket because of the occasions of that century: religious
confidence. This religious measurement to the ballad is borne out by Hardy s own convictions yet
in addition by his different sonnets, for example, The Oxen (which... Show more content on

The matching of the two or the possibility of a couple is built before the sonnet even begins. In
the title, Twain , the old word for two is utilized, creating the possibility of a matching, with the
most evident combine being the ship and the iceberg. From the 6th stanza onwards, Hardy s
lexis recommends that the union of the two powers was fated, an unavoidable occasion planned
by some covered up, wild power which is shown in phrases like The Immanent Will (VI, 18) and
the Spinner of Years (XI, 31). Despite the fact that these expressions are utilized as a part of his
books to signify the powers that work in human life, in the ballad the implicit power Hardy
proposes might be nature; the matching of human innovation and nature can be seen
unmistakably in the sonnet with all the new advancements of people set against the greater
power of nature. Tough talks about that while the Titanic was being assembled, nature as well
arranged a vile mate (VII, 19) and, in the following stanza, Hardy makes a feeling of threat in the
lines And as the shrewd ship developed/In stature, beauty and tone/In shadowy quiet separation
developed the Iceberg as well (VIII, 22 24). While commentator Chris Baldick claims Hardy s The
Convergence of the Twain implies a philosophical position and that it deliberately abstains from
admonishing , kindred faultfinder Donald Davie claims the lyric extraordinarily scolds the vanity
and extravagance which made and occupied the staterooms of the sea liner in this manner proposing

Bird Seed Lab Report
Background There are many ways to obtain seeds to grow flowers in the springtime, but not all
seeds were created equal. Sunflower seeds, for example, can be bought at a garden store in a
packet for $1.5 dollars per 6 gram packet, but they can also be found in bird seed for $3.53
dollars per 10 pounds. This experiment intends to find if the germination of a store bought
packet of sunflower seeds matches the germination rate of sunflower seeds obtained from a bag
of bird seed. While both seeds will germinate, it is believed that the bird seed will not be as
robust in growth as the garden seed, due to the fact that the garden seed is made to be grown,
while the bird seed is made for consumption. Methods Firstly, for the setup of the experiment, two
styrofoam cups were filled with two inches worth of standard, fertilized garden soil, next four
seeds from from the garden seed, and the bird seed were placed an inch deep in separate cups. The
seeds were blindly labeled, with one being labeled group A and one being labeled group B. This
was so as to efficiently conduct a double blind experiment. The seeds were watered with
approximately a teaspoon of water per day, and kept in a sunny windowsill. They were left in the
windowsill for two weeks, and watered daily. Results The results... Show more content on

While there is some room for error, based off of the differences in students experiments, the data
is significant enough to determine which had the higher germination rate. However, this
experiment tested only the germination rate, and not the actual flowers produced by either seed.
It is possible that, while having a higher germination rate, the bird seed produces smaller
sunflowers, while the garden seed produces bigger ones. If one is purchasing seeds based solely off
of germination rate or price, however, the bird seed would be the appropriate

We see that propositions have changed the function of the legislature by creating constraints and
mandating certain actions. The stipulations and mandate of Proposition 13 and 58 is
problematic for it makes it difficult for legislators to create policies or pass the budget.
Proposition13 created a two thirds majority rule, which made it difficult to pass any tax revenue.
This is problematic especially during an economic crisis for the legislature is not able to create
new revenue sources when needed. The two thirds rule imposed by Proposition 13 creates
hostage taking in the legislature for it allows the legislative minority to demand major concession

Consumer s Perception of a Brand Image Incredibly Relevant

Consumer s perception of a brand image such as Microsoft is incredibly relevant in terms of a
positive perception on a brand leads on to a positive perception of a product and therefore,

Microsoft has to successfully alter their perception to not only be a positive perception, but a

Windows 8 and can make it feel personally relevant to them.
MOTIVATIONIS KEY
In order to successfully market Windows 8, Microsoft has to motivate students to make the
effort to be interested in Microsoft. Lyengar and Lepper (2000) point out that a lack of
motivation can cause consumers to either defer the decision, search for alternatives, choose a
default option or simply opt not to choose. All of these options do not favour Microsoft in any
way. Deferring the decision or not making the decision at all reduces Microsoft s presence and
exposure to the market because this means that consumers are not willing to go that extra step to
research Microsoft. Microsoft also does not want consumers to opt for the default option, due to
Apple s immense brand image and popularity, especially to students Apple has become the
protypical brand leader which only diminishes Microsoft s perception with consumers. Motivation
is highly affected from external competitors such as Apple s iOS and Google s Android operating

Shortly following the doe was a buck. I couldn t tell how big it was because I was having a hard

little while to make sure it s dead, but since we knew it was dead we walked up to it. As we were

Maybe six or eight points. I replied. Bigger. He said Probably ten or twelve points. My buck

where I could sort of see the antlers and I could just tell it was a monster. Grandpa quickly
counted the antlers and it was a ten point. I was so excited, but Grandpa was even more excited.
As soon as I saw it, I took a quick picture of it to send to my dad and mom but our cell phone
signal is not good at camp so I could only tell them how big it was. After I texted my parents,
Grandpa began to gut it due to the fact that it s super gross. We tried to haul it back to camp, but
it was very heavy and the water made it even harder so we decided just to tag it and leave it and

Six Sigma and Project Management
Six Sigma and Project Management
Project Management in Business and Technology, Section 02
Introduction
Sigma is a symbol for a unit of measure which measures how much a process deviates from
perfection. With the increase in demand for quality products/services, several organizations look for
ways to improve their performance to meet customer s expectations. Six Sigma is considered to be
an approach which blends the components of quality management and business process re
engineering. Six Sigma s aim is to increase the efficiency and remove waste, thereby increasing the
customer satisfaction. There are many myths about Six Sigma:
a) It s only concerned with reducing defects
b) It is a process for production
c) It can t be applied to engineering activities
d) It is just a training process
e) It is a new concept
History of Six Sigma
Since 1920 s the term sigma is used by mathematician s measurement unit in product quality
measurement. In mid 1980 s, engineers at Motorola Inc. coined the term Six Sigma which they
used it informally as an in house initiative to increase the quality for reducing the defects in the
production process. Initially the engineers measured the defects in terms of thousands which
gradually increased to defects per million . This prompted the use of Six Sigma technology and
idea of branding Six Sigma. A company is Six Sigma certified if it could limit its flaws up to 3.4
defects per million.

The Dawes Severalty Act of 1887
There has been much documentation on the plight of Native Americans throughout the
beginnings of this nation. In spite of the attempts by the early government of the United States,
the culture of many Native American tribes has survived and even flourished. The Dawes
Severalty Act of 1887 is just one of many examples of how our government attempted to wipe
out Native American culture. This paper will discuss the Dawes Act, particularly the time
leading up to the act, the act itself, and finally its failure. By understanding the past failures in
the treatment of a particular race of people, the government can learn how to protect the rights
of all people, especially in a day and age of cultural diversity. Times were a lot different back in
the 1800s as compared to today, and unfortunately, for the minorities of the day, most white
people did not see them as equals. The Civil War was testimony to this horrific fact. America was
expanding rapidly on the heels of the gold rush and the boom of industry. This expansion posed a
major problem in regards to the Native American. Most of the southern and eastern tribes had
already been removed from their lands and forced to move west in the 1830s.1 Later, in 1867, a
peace commission was appointed to persuade western Native Americans to relinquish their land and
move to reservations. Once moved onto these reservations, the Native Americans would be wards
of the government until they learned to be more like the white people.2

Increasing Competition On The Balance Sheet
With the increasing competition on the balance sheet both between banks and from non banks
financial institutions, banks have diversified their product into non intermediary financial services
as a result. One of the results of this has been the remarkable growth in the percentage of off
balance sheet (henceforth OBS) activities. Generally, OBS item refers to an asset or debt that does
not appear on the banks balance sheet, e.g. standby letters of credit, currency and interest rate
swaps etc. In the last two decades, with the deregulation of the financial markets and
improvement in financial innovations, banks are encouraged to offer new financial products and
services to increase their profit (Jurman, 2005). Actually, decreasing profitability of traditional
banking and increasing competitiveness of markets force banks to undertake OBS activities.
Therefore, banks have expanded OBS activities dramatically, not only on the volume of
traditional OBS items, but also the use of risky innovations (Khambata and Hirche, 2002). The
data of European commercial banks shows, the OBS activities increased from less than 50% of
total outstanding loans in the early 1990s to 150% of loans in the early 2000s. A similar trend
has also occurred among commercial banks in the United States (Bos and Kolari, 2013).
Specifically, on the one hand, as we can see from table 1, the share of OBS activities have been
growing dramatically among sample developed markets banking industry. On the other

Navicular Syndrome Research Paper
Navicular syndrome, or navicular disease, is a hoof problem in horses. Navicular syndrome is a
degenerating bone disease that causes lameness in the horse. It deteriorates the navicular bone as
well as the surrounding tissues. Navicular generally occurs on the front feet and happens when
horses are between the age of eight and twelve. Navicular can lead to significant and even
disabling lameness ( Navicular Problems: Symptoms and Treatment). The navicular bone is a
small bone in a horse s hoof that sits in between the coffin bone and the pastern. The bone is
shaped like a canoe. This led to the name navicular bone. The prefix nvicu means small boat in
Latin. The bone is also called the distal sesamoid bone
( Navicular Problems: Symptoms and Treatment). Associated with the navicular bone are several
structures of soft tissue. The collateral sesamoidean ligament is located on the upper side of the
bone. This ligament attaches to the distal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most common ways to prevent navicular is proper shoeing and care of the feet, as well
as adding joint supplements to feed. If a horse has navicular syndrome, corrective shoeing is an
option. There are many types of shoes used when treating a horse with navicular. Some of these
shoes are a wedge shoe, heart bar shoes, egg bar shoes, and steel shoes with a pad insert. Another
form of treatment is anti inflammatory drugs such as phenylbutazone. Most horsemen call it Bute
for short. This drug can come in the form of oral paste or mix in powder. There is also coffin
injections which help give the horse more cushion between the navicular bone and the coffin bone.
A neurectomy, or denerving, is the process in which the nerves are surgically removed from the
hoof so the horse has no more feeling to the foot. Studies show that almost 60 percent of horses
with navicular will get a neurectomy (Navicular

Comprehensive Sex Education Vs. Abstinence-Only Sex-Education

Abstinence Only Sex Ed
Everyone remembers having to go to a sex ed class in late middle school or early high school.
Most people remember it as extremely awkward and slightly terrifying. The difference between
comprehensive sex ed and abstinence only education can be life or death. Comprehensive sex ed
teaches people about contraception, sexual orientations, which needs to be updated, and how to be
safe in general. Abstinence only sex ed basically only teaches to wait to have sexual interactions
until married, and the benefits of it. The United States has some problems. Teen pregnancies here
are two times as high as other industrialized countries (Harris), and half of all STI cases are ... Show

Some argue that this is the better choice, and that it will cause a positive effect. The article Sex Ed
Must Stress Value of Abstinence , it states that waiting until they are older lowers risk of unintended
pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.
This may be correct in the way that as you get older you become less impulsive. This would
cause you to make more clear headed ideas. This, I believe, is the only correct part of this
argument. Not teaching needed information on contraception and such ideas when you are younger
will have disastrous effects. It would cause more unwanted pregnancies and STIs, just when you
are not a teenager anymore. The teaching of comprehensive sex ed would lower the rate of
abortions in our country, as well

Pro re nata is a Latin phrase meaning for an unforseen need or contingency . 1 The most common
type of PRN medication administered by mental health professionals in acute mental health care

Do they feel confident in their own decision making when administering PRN medications?
What medication do they choose if there is a choice between two or more PRN medications?
What dosage and what route of administration do nurses use and why?
This systematic review will endeavour to find evidence for the use of PRN medications by mental
health professionals including the clinical decision making process when administering PRN

similarity and differences between the two main characters in the story of The Epic of Gilgamesh.
When analyzing both stories, one may see how the relationship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu
compares to the relationship between Don Quixoteand Sancho Panza. The Epic of Gilgameshis an
epic poem from ancient Mesopotamia, and is often regarded as one of the earliest texts of

Partisan Media Analysis
The article begins by explaining the main purpose for the research inquiry. If this recent election
has proven anything, it is that there is vast wealth of election coverage. Citizens can now access
political information, and news coverage from almost anywhere through a variety of mediums. This
increased access has opened a new dimension. Partisan media effects have been researched in the
past. However, this article points out that there is a lack of inquiry on the timing of partisan media
influence during the electioncycle.
A common mistake that occurs during past research is the assumption that partisan media effects
are static. This however, is not the case. The article points towards an evolving and dynamic media

This shows a diminishing return effect. More exposure repeatedly reduces the effect. These two
referenced influences set the stage for the following research designs.
The two surveys utilized data from the National Annenberg Election Study. The data was retrieved
using Internet and telephone collection methods. An advantage to this method was the utilization
of two pools of sampling. The pools were each collected from the Internet, and one telephone.
Also, the author used already available data. This significantly reduced the time and financial
strain that a survey could take up. The sample was collected through random digit dialing and
availability to the Internet. This adds to the reliability of the results. Traditional phone surveys
use a set list of phone numbers. This would exclude those who have private or unlisted numbers.
This problem is avoided with random digit dialing. The surveys were conducted during four
different waves. The waves were from winter, spring, summer, and fall waves. The winter wave
resulted in 19,190 respondents. The spring wave resulted in 17, 747 interviews. The summer wave
included 20,052 interviews. The fall wave resulted in 19,241 respondents. To be

Jungle Stereotypes In Little Black Sambo, Betty Boop,
Surprisingly, I personally thought the idea of observing these cartoons with a third eye was
highly effective. Usually, people tend to look past exactly what the cartoons are portraying. I
noticed throughout all of the cartoons they were humanizing racism. I saw a diversity in cultures
from all of the cartoons. Frequently, I observed how all the cultures were represented and the way
they were dressed. Additionally, one thing that stood out from the rest was physical appearance.
Between the two cartoons Little Black Sambo, Betty Boop, All this Rabbit Stew, and Jungle Jitters
the African Americans all had the same physical features such as facial appearance. The setting of
Little Black Sambo and Jungle Jitters were very similar plus they both had that jungle stereotype.
Jungle Jitters initially illustrated how African Americans are jungle eating people. Social justice
was highly embellished in Jungle Jitters explaining the lifestyle of all social classes. Overall, I

Reasons Why The US Should Convert To The Metric System
So much hard work and money has been lost just because America has refused to use the metric
system; why do we continue to make life so hard for ourselves and foreigners? Only three
countries in the world don t use the metric system: Burma, Liberia, and the United States. Since the
Metric Act was passed by the Senate in 1866, the U.S. has started using the metric systemon things
like food labels and in the military. Yet, we continue to use the imperial system (or USCS) for body
weight scales, food recipes, and road signs, which makes it difficult for any foreigner traveling to
the U.S., or any American traveling anywhere else. Therefore, for the ease of Americans, for better
interaction with people from other countries, and for science, medicine, and international
commerce, the United Statesshould convert to the metric system.
First of all, the metric system is much easier to use than the U.S. imperial system. The metric
system is much more organized because it is based on the number 10 and adds prefixes like kilo,
milli, and centi. The system America uses seems almost random and is much more difficult to use.

should convert is because it would make traveling to and from the U.S. a lot easier. Going to a
different country coming from America (and the other way around) can be very confusing if you
do anything that requires measuring food, knowing your weight or height, or knowing the
distance to a place. It shouldn t have to be this way. This difference in measurement systems can
even be dangerous. For example: foreigners traveling to America or Americans traveling
somewhere else would have a lot of difficulty figuring out the speed limit because the road signs
would be using miles per hour when that person thinks in kilometers per hour or vice versa. Why
is the United States still part of the 5% of countries that uses a different system of

Susan Whitfield Life Along The Silk Road Summary
In Susan Whitfield s Life Along the Silk Road, there is no central argument pushing the book in
one specific direction. There is, however, a slice into the daily lives of ten different characters.
By dividing the story into characters rather than chapters in a book, the author gains the ability
to tell what daily life would have actually looked like, from multiple perspectives. A story that
would transcend different social classes, ranks, genders, and ethnic groups. The book covers
lifestyles from the life of luxuries led by Taihe, the Chinese princess and the years of hardship of
Seg Lahton, a Tibetan soldier. The story flows through all of this, weaving it all together through
the Silk Road. There is a drawback to this tactic. To write a book like this there are a significant
amount of assumptions made, causing the reader to wonder what was fact and what was fiction.
Still, Whitefield writes her story through looking at some of the many aspects of an individual
character s life, their interactions with family, government, royalty, and trade and how these all join
together to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The religions often were a reprieve from the harsh government, and that story is really displayed
with how people would use the Buddhist monasteries as a way to avoid paying taxes to the
government. Religion could also offer stability and had benefits for everyone, not just the rich or
the poor. Whitfield said, [The monastery] offered the poor employment, the rich redemption, and a
tax haven to both. (161) However, the people in charge of the religion, no matter the denomination,
were all susceptible to corruption. With Kumtugh the Horseman, his tribal leaders adapted the
beliefs of Sogdian Merchants, who they offered protection to while traveling through their lands.
Kumtugh never did change his religion, but it was the Silk Road that brought the

Essay about Criminal Evidence
Evidence is the key element in determining the guilt or innocence of those accused of crimes
against society in a criminal court of law. Evidence can come in the form of weapons, documents,
pictures, tape recordings and DNA. According to the American Heritage College dictionary,
evidence is the documentary or oral statements and the material objects admissible as testimony in
a court of law (476). It is shown in court as an item of proof, to impeach or rehabilitate a witness,
and to determine a sentence. This paper will examine two murdercases, O.J. Simpsonand Daniel
Taylor.

The police investigations uncovered more evidences to link Simpson to the murders. Their
testimonies showed that Simpson had actually planned the crime. He had an alibi but it was
shaky. Simpson s history of spousal abuse gave the prosecutors was a blow to his case too. All the
evidences pointed unfavorably toward O. J. Simpson
Despite all this evidence, the jury found O.J. not guilty. The LAPD made some mistakes, which
allowed the defense to attack the creditability of the police. O.J. s defense, called quot; The Dream
Team, quot; took advantage of the prosecutions and the officers incompetence and created
reasonable doubt in the jurors minds (CNN). The officers duties included making sure that no
unauthorized people may enter the scene. They had allowed unauthorized officers the go through
the scene, thus causing some contamination to the crime scene. By all accounts, the prosecution
did a poor job presenting the evidence and the officers did not do a very good job at securing the
scene
On the other hand, the case of Daniel Taylor, who was convicted of murdering two people also,
had a solid Alibi with paperwork and witnesses to support his alibi it seemed almost impossible
for the jury to find him guilty. But on December morning in 1992, 17 year old gang member,
Daniel, confessed to a double murder committed two weeks earlier in the Uptown neighborhood.
(Chicago Tribune) . The case was built upon Taylor s confession.
Taylor claimed that they

The Impact Of Friendship On People s Lives
The Impact of Friendship
Close social relationships have a dramatic affect on people s lives. Specifically, friendships are
amazing in that each one is different yet all friendships share several qualities. Although
friendships are a very positive thing to have, they also come with costs. Friendships have always
intrigued me, so I found it fascinating to learn about the impact they have and it gave me a new
perspective to look at my own friendships.
Friendships can be very different from one another but they all have recognizable characteristics.
Floyd (2011) defines these characteristics of friendship as voluntary, between peers, governed by
rules, differ by sex, and have a lifespan. People become friends with one another out of choice, ...

These rules can vary from behavior to the feelings one has about their friend. Criticizing a friend
behind their back or being dishonest are widely looked down upon. These rules are unchanged
by differences in sex but other aspects of the friendship differ. Floyd (2011) states that same sex
friends value different aspects of their friendships. Friendships between women tend to
emphasize conversation and emotional expressiveness. Men s friendships place more of a focus
on shared activities and interests according to Floyd (2011). I personally find this quite accurate
to examples in my life. On the other hand, opposite sex friendships are valuable as they allow
both men and women to see things from each other s perspectives. Floyd (2011) says that
opposite sex friendships allow men to be emotionally expressive and women to partake in shared
activities. Many reasons can prevent an opposite sex friendship from becoming a romantic
relationship. A lack of physical attraction, wanting to protect an existing friendship, and fear of
rejection, are a few of the reasons Floyd (2011) lists. The final characteristic is that friendships have
lifespans. An unfortunate reality, but as Floyd (2011) puts it, most friendships are initiated,
maintained, and eventually many of them end. Nagging, criticizing, abuse of alcohol and drugs,
and hostile behaviors can lead to declining friendships, which

  • 2. Should Students Be Allowed To Fail In Elementary School I believe that students in elementary school should not be allowed to advance to the next grade if they are failing because if they do then they will not be able to pass grade that they will be going in to. The student will not understand the new stuff that is being handed to them. He or she will have a harder time understanding what is being taught. The student will keep moving forward and won t learn anything and will be a highschool dropout. If the student is held back then that means they did not learn the skills they ll need for the next grade. Keeping them back will mean they will get a 2nd chance to learn what they will need for the next grade. If they have trouble then they can ask the teacher for help. • 3. Self, Culture and Society In this paper an excerpt titled Theoretical from Engels Anti DhГјring will be examined in reference to Engels ideologies regarding materialism, the social work order, and the fundamental problems confronted in the clash between the social production and capitalist appropriation. In the chapter titled Theoretical, Engels lays out the basic conflict between what we know as socialism and capitalism, doing so by first examining what he calls the Materialist conception of history (Engels 1939, p. 292). In his materialistic history he claims that the exchange and bartering of products, and their production is the basis of every social order (Engels 1939, p. 292). He states that in every society that has ever appeared in history, the ... The fundamental issue that arises however is this: in Feudalism, and in earlier times it was clear who the owner of the product of labor was, the individual producer had produced it, as a rule from raw material which belonged to him, and often was also produced by himself... (Engels 1939, p. 295) As a result of this, there was never any need to appropriate the product to him, as it belonged to him as an absolute. (Engel 1939, p. 295) The problem here is that this idea continued on even after social production had taken the place of individual producers, and the Social products were treated as if they were still...the products of individuals. (Engels 1939, p. 295) Now the owner of the instruments of labor continued to appropriate the product, although it was not longer his product, but...the product of other s labor. Thus therefore, the products now socially produced were not appropriated by those who had really set the means of production in motion and...produced the products, but by the capitalists. (Engels 1939, p. 295) Therefore the original contradiction in capitalism can be summed up as such: The mode of production is subjected to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Is Abortion Still Killing Killing is still killing. In America, a very controversial issue is abortion. It is unfortunate that this is even considered eristic. A child, no matter what age, is still a child. Many people have tried making this out to be something it is not; people will try to say that in the womb, an unborn child is only a glob of flesh. This line of thinking is incredibly precarious, as well as downright deranged. A child in the womb is alive, aborting a baby is hazardous and unnatural, the methods used to slaughter these innocents are barbaric and strictly against God s plan for human life. Murder will never solve anything. A baby in the belly, no matter what, is still a living being. At just 9 weeks, nearly 2 months of pregnancywhere most women... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is incorrect because there is a small life within a woman s womb at this point, it is no longer simply her body, this becomes a shared residence, one where a different growing body now lives. Along these lines, it is also incredibly unnatural and harmful to a woman s body at this point to remove the growing fetus. Some very immediate potential complications of an abortion would include heavy bleeding, infection, incomplete abortion, sepsis, anesthesia, damage to the cervix, scarring of the uterine lining, uterine perforation, damage to internal organs, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, and even death. The list continues with the emotional complications such as eating disorders, relationship problems, guilt, depression, flashbacks of abortion, suicidal thoughts, sexual dysfunction, alcohol and drug abuse (studentforlife.org). The ugly truth is that a mother will form a both physical and emotional bond with her child, even before she is aware of the pregnancy, this bond is not easily erased. A woman may even experience complications, long after an abortion, including breast cancer, cervical, ovarian, and liver cancer, ectopic pregnancy and placenta previa. If this is what is meant by your body, your choice it doesn t add up that any woman would choose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Economic And Social Cost Of Illiteracy The World Literacy Foundation released a report on illiteracy in 2012 sharing this devastating news, Shockingly, more than 796 million people in the world cannot read or write. About 67 million children do not have access to a primary school education and another 72 million miss out on secondary school education (Melbourne, The Economic Social Cost of Illiteracy ). Complete illiteracy is defined as, a person who cannot read or write at all (Melbourne, The Economic Social Cost of Illiteracy ). However, there is another kind of illiteracy. This illiteracy is commonly known as functional illiteracy. Function illiteracy, means an individual may have basic reading, writing and numerical skills but cannot apply them to accomplish tasks that are necessary to make informed choices and participate fully in everyday life (Melbourne, The Economic Social Cost of Illiteracy ). Illiteracy brings multiple negative effects to an individual and his or her family. The effects of illiteracy include: life threatening health issues, lower incomes and inability to succeed in his or her career, and it increases crime rates. First, illiteracy carries life threatening health issues. If someone is illiterate, he or she will be unable to comprehend medical records and assessments. For almost five centuries, the Ottoman Empire was a significant player in the region and a component of the Concert of Europe1. Lennie Small, and George Milton, born and raised in Auburn, settle in Salinas valley making their living as ranch hands. Conflict arises as Lennie struggles to heed George s words and eventually Lennie suffers his downfall at the hand of his best friend. John Steinbeck used foreshadowing in, Of Mice and Men, to express and reveal the sentiments behind characters actions and personalities throughout the novel, demonstrating the importance of foreshadowing to deepen the understanding of major events in a novel. The author utilizes the setting of the book to foreshadow the differences in Lennie and George s characters. Before they are introduced, Steinbeck describes the diverse region of mountains and streams close to George and Lennie s destination. The area is separated by a river with one side harboring, golden foothill slopes [which] curve up to the strong and rocky Gabilan mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees willows fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the winter s flooding, (Steinbeck 1). However, Truman is unaware that he has been the star of a television show since birth and thanks to free will, he continues to live life as a normal person. How, Descartes asked, can we be certain that we are all not utterly deceived? The Truman Show presents a similar skeptical problem, but in the most convincing of ways. Christof is clearly the evil genius that Descartes described, but whereas Descartes fatal demon is a creature of pure fantasy, the character of Christof and the conspiracy that he orchestrates seem dangerously real. In Descartes Second Meditation he says, I suppose, then, that all the things that I see are false, I persuade myself that nothing has ever existed of all that my fallacious memory represents to me . In the Truman show, Truman finds himself believing that the world around him is the real world, however he is being deceived. Would Truman have been better off believing Descartes words? Whether it s the newest clothing line, the best recording artist, or a slightly more important issue, Americans pride themselves in setting the pace on issues for the rest of the world. One issue that has caught our attention is the term urban greening . This is defined as taking an urban area and making it more green by adding parks, building green roofs on apartments, or closing power plants and other harmful industrial areas to create a more environmentally safe area (Brasuell, 2014). When a low income area, with many undesirable environmental qualities, starts becoming greener, it causes a negative effect on that population (Regan, n.d). While their housing is now better, the neighborhood becomes increasingly desirable, causing a spike in cost of living and other expenses. Now that the rent has increased, the original tenants cannot afford the new prices, and they are forced to move out. This process is called environmental gentrification . This term has sparked numerous debates due to it s two polar opposite sides. While environmental justice strives to provide equal development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws and quality, these qualities are what makes low income areas desirable. An illegal option, alcohol makes for a perfect way for teens to be rebellious. With a minimum legal drinking age of 21, many teenagers are able to use drinking as a rebellious act. If the drinking age were 18, it would be different. A 19 year old could not drink to rebel. A large part of what makes alcohol so appealing to teenagers is its forbidden nature. Forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest. People want what they cannot have. Having a minimum legal drinking ageof 18 would eliminate the desirable forbidden aspect, thereby making drinking less attractive to teens. Pretend two teenagers are drinking. One gets hurt and needs medical attention. It is likely that the other teen will hesitate to take the injured friend to get the needed attention due to fear that they will both get in trouble. Lowering the drinking will eliminate this situation. It will reduce the number of underage people having alcohol related injuries due to fear of the consequence. According to the article Should the Drinking Age Be Lowered from 21 to a Younger Age? , 17 states and Washington, DC will allow underage drinkers to report injuries without punishment. However, it brings together people who (most of the time) come from a Catholic/Christian backgrounds, and creates a sense of community. For that I appreciate Catholic Education. • 30. Summary OfThe Assault By Harry Mulisch In The Assault , the author, Harry Mulisch, depicts Anton Steenwijk as the protagonist, who witnesses the violence at the night of the assault. In the subsequent years, Anton distances himself from the truth of the assault due to his traumatic experience, his incomplete knowledge towards the event, and his sorrowful memories. The traumatic experience makes Anton reluctant to go back to Haarlem, where the violent assault takes place. The assaultgives Anton a strike, and many times in the story, he pledges never to go back to Haarlem. For example: He shouldn t have come; he should never have returned to Haarlem. He should have buried all that, the way one buries the dead (Mulisch 61). It can be inferred that deep in Anton s mind, what happens at that night is the most horrible moment to him, and such unforgettable memories remind him of never coming back. The parallel structure here shows a complex mindset that Anton has when he hesitates to return to Haarlem. The author uses consecutive should and shouldn t stresses this tone. The all that here probably means all the tragic events happen in Haarlem, including both the assaultand deprivation of Anton s parents. Also, the author uses an analogy, that Anton should forget all the things in Haarlem and never think about them again, because it is a disgraceful memory of Anton, just like someone should bury the dead to wipe away the mournful memories. Besides, Anton swears never to go back to Haarlem even if a job offers him a hundred thousand gulden a year. (61) This shows Anton is resolved not to go back to Haarlem. His reluctance to return is quite logical: Haarlem is a place teeming with unjoyful memories, and a place where his house is burnt, and his parents are lost. Who likes to return to a place where such sorrowful recollection flows? It is the presence of his traumatic experience that haunts Anton and holds him from going back and seeing the place again. In the aftermath of the violent assault, Anton develops a psychological distance that makes him too sorrowful to accept the truth. The sorrow of his can be seen when Anton meets his former neighbor, Karin. As Once more the old bitterness welled up, the inexhaustible bitterness. Was he meant to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The matching of the two or the possibility of a couple is built before the sonnet even begins. In the title, Twain , the old word for two is utilized, creating the possibility of a matching, with the most evident combine being the ship and the iceberg. From the 6th stanza onwards, Hardy s lexis recommends that the union of the two powers was fated, an unavoidable occasion planned by some covered up, wild power which is shown in phrases like The Immanent Will (VI, 18) and the Spinner of Years (XI, 31). Despite the fact that these expressions are utilized as a part of his books to signify the powers that work in human life, in the ballad the implicit power Hardy proposes might be nature; the matching of human innovation and nature can be seen unmistakably in the sonnet with all the new advancements of people set against the greater power of nature. Tough talks about that while the Titanic was being assembled, nature as well arranged a vile mate (VII, 19) and, in the following stanza, Hardy makes a feeling of threat in the lines And as the shrewd ship developed/In stature, beauty and tone/In shadowy quiet separation developed the Iceberg as well (VIII, 22 24). Sunflower seeds, for example, can be bought at a garden store in a packet for $1.5 dollars per 6 gram packet, but they can also be found in bird seed for $3.53 dollars per 10 pounds. This experiment intends to find if the germination of a store bought packet of sunflower seeds matches the germination rate of sunflower seeds obtained from a bag of bird seed. While both seeds will germinate, it is believed that the bird seed will not be as robust in growth as the garden seed, due to the fact that the garden seed is made to be grown, while the bird seed is made for consumption. Methods Firstly, for the setup of the experiment, two styrofoam cups were filled with two inches worth of standard, fertilized garden soil, next four seeds from from the garden seed, and the bird seed were placed an inch deep in separate cups. The seeds were blindly labeled, with one being labeled group A and one being labeled group B. This was so as to efficiently conduct a double blind experiment. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see that propositions have changed the function of the legislature by creating constraints and mandating certain actions. The stipulations and mandate of Proposition 13 and 58 is problematic for it makes it difficult for legislators to create policies or pass the budget. Proposition13 created a two thirds majority rule, which made it difficult to pass any tax revenue. This is problematic especially during an economic crisis for the legislature is not able to create new revenue sources when needed. The two thirds rule imposed by Proposition 13 creates hostage taking in the legislature for it allows the legislative minority to demand major concession for their vote. By doing so, the minority in the chamber can stall the passage of policies or even the budget. We see that reform initiatives really hinder the efficiency of the legislature; it creates unnecessary barriers for policymaking. MOTIVATIONIS KEY In order to successfully market Windows 8, Microsoft has to motivate students to make the effort to be interested in Microsoft. Lyengar and Lepper (2000) point out that a lack of motivation can cause consumers to either defer the decision, search for alternatives, choose a default option or simply opt not to choose. All of these options do not favour Microsoft in any way. Deferring the decision or not making the decision at all reduces Microsoft s presence and exposure to the market because this means that consumers are not willing to go that extra step to research Microsoft. Microsoft also does not want consumers to opt for the default option, due to Apple s immense brand image and popularity, especially to students Apple has become the protypical brand leader which only diminishes Microsoft s perception with consumers. Four thirty in the morning is when the sustainable day began. I woke up and got dressed in a hurry because I was full energy and excitement. My Uncle Todd came and picked me up and we were off to camp. We arrived at our camp and it was time for the annual camp breakfast which consists of Grandpa s famous Texas toast. The camp was filled with an aroma of a campfire smell from the wood stove and toast frying on the stove. After I texted my parents, Grandpa began to gut it due to the fact that it s super gross. In spite of the attempts by the early government of the United States, the culture of many Native American tribes has survived and even flourished. The Dawes Severalty Act of 1887 is just one of many examples of how our government attempted to wipe out Native American culture. This paper will discuss the Dawes Act, particularly the time leading up to the act, the act itself, and finally its failure. By understanding the past failures in the treatment of a particular race of people, the government can learn how to protect the rights of all people, especially in a day and age of cultural diversity. Times were a lot different back in the 1800s as compared to today, and unfortunately, for the minorities of the day, most white people did not see them as equals. The Civil War was testimony to this horrific fact. America was expanding rapidly on the heels of the gold rush and the boom of industry. This expansion posed a major problem in regards to the Native American. Most of the southern and eastern tribes had already been removed from their lands and forced to move west in the 1830s.1 Later, in 1867, a peace commission was appointed to persuade western Native Americans to relinquish their land and move to reservations. Once moved onto these reservations, the Native Americans would be wards of the government until they learned to be more like the white people.2 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Increasing Competition On The Balance Sheet With the increasing competition on the balance sheet both between banks and from non banks financial institutions, banks have diversified their product into non intermediary financial services as a result. One of the results of this has been the remarkable growth in the percentage of off balance sheet (henceforth OBS) activities. Generally, OBS item refers to an asset or debt that does not appear on the banks balance sheet, e.g. standby letters of credit, currency and interest rate swaps etc. In the last two decades, with the deregulation of the financial markets and improvement in financial innovations, banks are encouraged to offer new financial products and services to increase their profit (Jurman, 2005). Actually, decreasing profitability of traditional banking and increasing competitiveness of markets force banks to undertake OBS activities. Therefore, banks have expanded OBS activities dramatically, not only on the volume of traditional OBS items, but also the use of risky innovations (Khambata and Hirche, 2002). The data of European commercial banks shows, the OBS activities increased from less than 50% of total outstanding loans in the early 1990s to 150% of loans in the early 2000s. A similar trend has also occurred among commercial banks in the United States (Bos and Kolari, 2013). It deteriorates the navicular bone as well as the surrounding tissues. Navicular generally occurs on the front feet and happens when horses are between the age of eight and twelve. Navicular can lead to significant and even disabling lameness ( Navicular Problems: Symptoms and Treatment). The navicular bone is a small bone in a horse s hoof that sits in between the coffin bone and the pastern. The bone is shaped like a canoe. This led to the name navicular bone. The prefix nvicu means small boat in Latin. The bone is also called the distal sesamoid bone ( Navicular Problems: Symptoms and Treatment). Most horsemen call it Bute for short. This drug can come in the form of oral paste or mix in powder. There is also coffin injections which help give the horse more cushion between the navicular bone and the coffin bone. Reasons Why The US Should Convert To The Metric System So much hard work and money has been lost just because America has refused to use the metric system; why do we continue to make life so hard for ourselves and foreigners? Only three countries in the world don t use the metric system: Burma, Liberia, and the United States. Nagging, criticizing, abuse of alcohol and drugs, and hostile behaviors can lead to declining friendships, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
