What Does The Mask Symbolize In Lord Of The Flies
Similar to William Golding s idea of mankind, William James, who was an American
philosopher, had the idea that, We are all ready to be savage in some cause. The difference
between a good man and a bad one is the choice of the cause. This idea transfers nicely to
William Goldings book, Lord of the Flies, which follows British boys who have been stranded on
a deserted island, and now must survive, using their surroundings, as well as their wit. However, it
isn t all smooth sailing for the boys, and eventually almost all of them become savagelike, and
disconnected from the outside world. The conch, and the maskare both important symbolsin the
book, that demonstrate how the boys turn from innocent school boys to unforgiving beasts,
capable of evil. The biggest, and one of the most influential symbols in the book, the conch,
plays a major role in showing the boys decline into savagery. When Lord of the Flies begins the
first characters we see are Ralph and Piggy, Piggy being the first to discover a conch shell, that he
gives to Ralph who says, Seems to me we need to have a chief to decide things (22). This marks the

Goldings showed the boys decent into savagery with these two symbols to prove his point that
even young boys can become evil. He also makes it a point, that without some form of authority,
or organization, we would all end up with the same fate as Simon and Piggy. However, he also
doesn t completely disregard the idea of savagery, as becoming savage is ultimately what gets them
rescued, implying that savagery and order are intertwined more than it may seem. In conclusion,
Goldings message is that all human nature is corrupt, including boys that were innocent before the
island, and boys that no longer be the same after the

Essay on Account For the Success of the Bolsheviks in...
Account For the Success of the Bolsheviks in October 1917 At the beginning of 1917 most of the
Bolsheviks were in exile but by the end of 1917 the Bolshevik party had not only consolidated
control of Moscow and Petrograd, but they were also advancing on the rest of the country. This
success was due to several linked factors; the Bolshevik policy of non cooperation, weakness of
the Provisional Government, division of alternative opposition, Lenin s leadership skills, the
power of the Petrograd Soviet and Trotsky as its leader, failure on deliver of land reform and the
oppressed, armed workers in Petrograd. Bolshevik success is dictated by whether they met their
aims; these included the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, we must remember, that Lenin had incorrectly pushed for an unsuccessful revolution in
July. Lenin is famed to have said, History will not forgive us if we do not assume power, Lenin
chose, successfully, when to seize power. The Weaknesses of the Provisional Government were as
much, if not more to blame than the successes of the Bolsheviks for the Socialist Revolution. The
Provisional Government was delicate by its very nature, it was not democratically elected, it was
illegitimate, and had no mandate to rule. Why should opposition groups recognise such a
government? The Bolsheviks were careful not to affiliate itself with the Provisional Government
because it wanted to disassociate itself from government s many failed policies and it also wanted
to remain a small, hardcore, tightly knit net of ardent Marxists, without any Bourgeois influences.
The Provisional Government s failed policies stemmed from its weak, fragmented coalition. The
Octoberists were on the centre right as they agreed with the Tsar s October Manifesto, which had
ended the 1905 Revolution. The Cadets (Constitutional Democrats) were the moderate, liberals of
the centre of the political spectrum. On the

Beryl Markham s West With The Night
West with the Night is an autobiography by Beryl Markham, who is a pilot is Africa. In her book
she juxtaposes Africa and London and then extends that juxtaposition to stand for the universal
feelings of boredom and freedom. She chooses events from her job that highlight the difference
between Africa and London to characterize herself as exotic and unique. She opens this excerpt by
telling the story of transporting life saving oxygen to a dying old man. By choosing to reveal to us
important and dangerous events from her job she reveals that she thinks of herself as adventurous,
out of the box, and a hero.
In the beginning of this excerpt she compares her life in Africa where she claims she was unable to
discuss the boredom of being alive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We know from her description of London that she abhors being bored and she suggests that
boredom is tied to loneliness in her description of her life in Africa. In spite of this she confesses
that Night flying over charted country by aid of instruments and radio guidance can still be a
lonely business, but to fly in unbroken darkness without even the cold companionship of a pair
of earphones or the knowledge that somewhere ahead are lights and life and a well marked
airport is something more than just lonely. The experience of that something that is more than
just lonely appears to be the thing that she dislikes most about her job but she doesn t hesitate to
night fly if someone should require her assistance. She doesn t give any mind to the physical
danger that is a part of flying an airplane at night instead her only concern is whether or not she
will be bored. Clearly for Markham her greatest fear is not death but it is the experience of being
under stimulated. It is clear from her description of her job that countless times she has gone up
into that airplane anyways and faced her worst fear. In doing so Markham shows herself to be
someone who is willing to sacrifice herself to help someone

Social Concentration Theory Analysis
The social penetration theory asserts that as a relationship develops it can develop a person s
communication from superficial to deeply personal topics, and it can slowly penetrate the
communicators public persona to reach their core personality or sense of self. A person can
allow others to penetrate their public self when they disclose personal information. The decision
to disclose is based on the perceived rewards the person will gain if he or she will disclose. Altman
and Dalmas used ideas from the social exchangetheory to develop the idea of regulating closeness
with rewards and cost. The rewards must out weight the cost in any relationship. Altman and
Dalmas compare people to onions due to the deception of the multilayered structure of
personality. The outer layer is the public layer, and we peel back the layers to the deeper, more
vulnerable, and private thoughts, beliefs, and values. In order for these layers to be penetrated, one
has to go through self disclosure. Self disclosure is voluntary sharing that leads to reciprocity;
reciprocity is the openness in one person that leads to openness in others. Also, within self
disclosure is depth and breadth, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there are major differences between their basic assumptions. Symbolic interactionism is
more of a sociological perspective on self and society; the central theme of the theory is that human
life is lived in the symbolic domain, but most importantly, we live through the notion of the looking
glass self. In contrast, the social penetration theory focuses on how a relationship begins between
two people; as the relationship develops the interpersonal communication moves from being
shallow to a more intimate level. The symbolic interactionism theory and social penetration theory

The Social Contract Account Of Justice By John Rawls
Rawls Paper The original position is a major theme in the social contract account of justice by
John Rawls. By design, it should be a fair point of view for any person desiring to be impartial in
their reasoning, regarding the basic principles of justice (Anderson et al. 2014). When a person
adopts this point of view, they imagine themselves in a position of equal persons who are
committed to the principles of political and social justice. One of its distinguishing features is the
veil of ignorance. In this paper, the case of a defendant found guilty of second degree murderis
presented. A stakeholder s position is first given on the matter. It is followed by the revised
position under the veil of ignorance. It also contains a discussion of the ways in which stances
have changed from the assigned identity s perspective to the Rawl s veil of significance perspective.
Introduction to the concepts The original position is a situation that occurs hypothetically. The
parties in the original position select the principles that determine the structure of their society. The
parties make the choice behind a veil of ignorance that is meant to deprive them of any information
concerning their characteristics. The kind of information eliminated include their gender, ethnicity,
social status, and the concept of the good. It means the participants must select the principles
rationally and impartially. In the social contract theory, there is a contract defining

Research ethics provides guidelines for the conduction of biomedical research. In addition, It
educates and monitors scientists conducting research to ensure a high ethical standard is
implemented. Hospitals in the United States now are required to have ethic committee. Ethic
committee have expanded their functions and become more comprehensive ethic programs

ethical questions through the provision of consultations. Most ethic committees functions are to

It was noted that many ethical issues may arise, relating to eligibility and criteria in identifying the
subjects to be used for testing. It was also noted that laws and regulations were formulated based on
unethical principles that took place in the past. The most obvious ones were the Tuskegee syphilis
study, where the black male were used for the experiment. This study comprised of 600 African
American men, about 400 with syphilis cases and 200 men without syphilis, in other words, the
control group. And many of them died due to the study. It was discovered that none of them were
informed about the possible cure, neither were they treated with antibiotic (http:/
/phrp.nihtraining.com). Also, another unethical research practice conducted was the Nazi Medical
War Crime, in this experiment, thousands of prisoners were tortured by injecting them with
gasoline and live viruses, immersing them in ice water and forcing them to ingest poisons. Based
on the information gathered from the reading, I have realized that before an individual become part
of a research study, there has to be an informed consent. Informed consent promotes autonomy,
which brings about respect for the person s dignity. Therefore, in order to protect the participants in
research, the ethical principles have to be followed. Such

My Theory Of Change Experiential Pop On My Head For More...
When thinking about which theory to do for my theory of change experiential pop in my head
for more than one reasons. First reason, is this theory is the one that stands out for me the most.
Secondly, I wanted to research more about experiential theory, in order to form a better
understanding. Experiential therapy, is the type of theory that help encourage their client s to
become more aware of their hidden or subconscious issues through their experiences. The
therapist dose this by role playing and through imagery. Therefore, there are more than one way
for experiential therapist to help their client to be able to identify key issues in their life.
Furthermore, experiential allows there to be space for the client to open up and talk about their
experiences. By doing this it provide a safe haven for the client s to address their underlying
issues they have bottle deep inside of them. It also allows for them to have a place to share these
unsure emotions through their own experiences and how it had impacted not only them, but their
relationships with loved ones and or friends. Having this type awareness is vitally to this approach
and help them to further develop and grown from these experiences that provided them with the
opportunity to grow from them. The role of the therapist is, to help guide their client s to work
through their issues through the use of their experience. Therefore, as the therapist it s up to them
to provide them with enough space to be able to feel

Common Core Stat Standards ( Ccss )
An Introduction of the Topic
Common Core Stat Standards (CCSS) is an interesting topic of discussion and debate because it
is such a charged topic. CCSS are a set of standards that are set equally amongst all states, as
opposed to states creating their own standards, with significant monetary benefits for states that
accept and exceed standards set by CCSS. This topic in particular is interesting because of how
politically charged it is. Some individuals think of it as a big government takeover of what should
be handled at a local level, or at the very highest, state level. These standards are important to nearly
every aspect of education: teachers, school administration, students, parents, lawmakers, and even
textbook and test authors. My treatment of the CCSS standards is fair, however, I willingly admit
that I do take a few punches at those who willingly misinterpret the very excellent goals of CCSS.
Historical Overview
The road to what is called Common Core is one of evolution of the methods of Education. The
idea of Common Core is to increase the benchmark that students at the end of their high school
careers are able to meet in order to better prepare students for life after high school, be it college
or the working world. The idea of creating a rigorous set of standards for students heading to
college is not a new notion. Jennifer Wallender writes that there is historical precedence for creating
standards going back to the 1892 Committee of Ten, which wanted to

A Brotherhood That Cannot Be Broken The flag rising on Iwo Jima, a very popular, famous, and
historic photo almost anyone can recognize at any given time. I think that this photo became so
popular and considered historic because it has been a symbol of our military s patriotism and
valor America s strength, honor, and brotherhood. A strength that cannot be shaken, honor that
cannot be abjured, and a brotherhood that cannot be broken. The battle for Iwo Jima was a
bloody battle against the Japanese forces. The island took the heaviest and longest bombardment
compared to any battles in the Pacific during the war ( Battle for Iwo Jima, 1945 , 1960). The

INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Prior to the liberalization of the telecommunication sector of Ghana s economy, the mobile
telephony sector of the economy was non existent. The only telecommunication service available
to the populace was limited fixed lines provided by the Ghana Postal and Telecommunication
Corporation (GP amp;T), which had a monopoly. The rate of access to phone in homes was 3

those in Accra. This led to the springing up of communication centers which ... Show more content

Most of the strategies are geared towards dominating the market. Whilst some over adopted the
strategy of innovation (a leaders), others have adopted the strategy of copying what others have
done (follower). Meanwhile others have also adopted the strategy of being a challenger and nicher.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
A close observation of the mobile telephony sector of Ghana reveals the looming of a heightened
competition, the research therefore seek to address following; 1. To examine competitive
environment of the mobile telephony sector? 2. Identify and analyze the strategies the various
mobile operators adopted in the wake of tight competition? 3. To examine the impact of these
strategies on customer satisfaction, retention and loyalty?
The purpose of this research is to understand the impact of the tight competition witnessed over the
past few years has on mobile operators and their customers and how customers have reacted to this
phenomenon. In my opinion the tight competition which has resulted in a price war between these
mobile operators goes to the benefit of mobile customers who have been underserved for long.
SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY
The focus of this research is on the impact of the marketing strategies adopted by mobile operators
in Ghana on their customers which makes it importance to individuals, the players in the market,
and corporate entities. Aside adding to the

The Influence Of The Victorian Era
How long did the Victorian Era last? Queen Victoria of England ruled the throne for over 64
years, however her impact made the Victorian era last for a 150 year. The Victorian era was most
known for its censorship and proper allegations. For example, men were supposed to be hard
workers and protectors of the house and family. Subsequently, women were suited to a role that
limited their abilities as a citizen as compared to today, which included household chores and such.
Lastly, children were to be quite and did not spend much time with their mothers and fathers. Due
to society s own harsh expectations of themselves, it impacted other aspects of their lives. This
impacted literature and is a major time when authors had to use more profound and deeper meaning
to events in stories to get inappropriate points across that would otherwise be censored. With this,
the ideas in literature reflect ideas that are found during the Victorian erabecause of its characters
reactions and events that were censored. The novel Dracula, by Bram Stoker, uses the Victorian era
s ideology to influence the story and its characters to convey the Victorian s beliefs in their society.
Firstly, Draculauses sexual inferences as a way to reflect Victorian beliefs that would be seen as
villainous or crude because of their ideas. Undoubtedly, Dracula has inferred sexual messages to the
reader for moods towards the characters. When Jonathan writes in his journal about his meeting

the car, which could potentially damage the chance for a second run to occur. The Land Speed

success of the record attempt. Bloodhound SSC
The SSC Bloodhound is one of the most eco friendly vehicles out there, with less omissions than 5

International Industry Analysis Porter s Five Forces
2.3 Inter Industry Analysis Porter s Five Forces
The Strategic fit approach to management, describes that the prospect of profitability depends
largely on the firm positioning itself in an attractive industry the attractiveness and therefore
profitability is said to depend upon how competitive the industry is, a highly competitive industry is
less attractive and less profitable than an industry where the competition is less intense.
(www.netmba.com) According to Porter s Five Forces Framework attractiveness and profitability
depends upon five elements of industry structure and how they interact determining the intensity of
the competition within the industry (Michael Porter, Competitive Strategy: Techniques for
analysing industries and competitors). Included in this chapter is an explanation of the Five Forces
and how they each affect Eurocity.
2.3.1 Rivalry amongst existing firms
Porter described that intense industrial rivalry can lead to higher costs; lower prices and therefore
lower profitability. As there are a large number of competitors with little ability to differentiate their
product, the market can be seen as very competitive and therefore unattractive. However, there are
some compensating factors; such as, an applicant must give his permission to companies who wish
to submit their CV and in return the applicant has to confirm that no other company will submit
them for the position. This means that applicants should not be submitted by numerous

Consumerism In Brave New World
As renown author, Bryant H. McGill, once stated in his piece titled Biodynamics, Anarchy,
Consumer Democracy and the Danger of Monocultures, the folly endless consumerism sends us on
a wild goose chase for happiness through materialism. This quote houses much truth in the sense
that consumerism births a hazardous game to play. The novel, Brave New World, written by Aldous
Huxley, describes a dystopian society filled with psychological manipulation, cloning technology,
and citizens with vulgar emotional detachment, all thanks to the leading force, consumerism. At a
young age, the World State teaches children to buy, buy, buy. Assisting this, Henry Ford, early 20th

Many people claim that consumer purchases stand necessary! Like food, money, and means of
transportation, but in modern day, consumers purchase products more for their looks and values,
but less for their technicalities. All goods can hold a political statement. If one thinks poorly of a
product that the bulk of society highly values, then they risk the chance of being frowned upon .
Also, purchasing can increase one s self image but that feeling proves only temporary. Plus, regret
and guilt proceed after. Some consumerists believe that a certain item will help them become the

Weaknesses Of Literature
A bewildering number of research reports are published annually. The reports differ with regard to
quality, comprehensibility, and relevance to practice (MГҐrtensson et.al, 2016). Furthermore, the
studies may have multiple strengths and weaknesses depending on the research methodology they
employ. Therefore, to establish a solid foundation for research on any subject and to prevent the
replication of inaccurate information, it is essential that scholars critically evaluate the available
scientific evidence (MГҐrtensson et al., 2016). The critical evaluation of philosophies or claims is
crucial in the development of independent thinkers and informed decision makers. It is the only
way of distinguishing among differing claims of truths and determining the credibility or
trustworthiness of different viewpoints. On that note, this essay seeks to analyze two pieces of
literature that try to answer the question as to whether the stimulant use is related to positive
academic performance among college students. In specific, the paper will analyze the strengths
and weaknesses of the two studies and discuss the factors, which influence evidence based
practice, with a special consideration of the PICO elements. Part A Hildt, E., Lieb, K., Franke, A.

End Of Watch Analysis
End of watch is a film about two cops as the do their job accross LA.
The movie wastes no time at all getting us into the action. Right away we are thrown onto a
dashcam that is fixed to the hood of the car. All over the screen we see letters and numbers
something we should expect from a dashcam of a police car. If you have seen a few episodes of
cops this shouldnt be anything new to you. With the car swerving left and right and houses
drifting away quickly there is a real sense of speed and danger and maybe even motion sickness.
The dash cam also adds another layer of immersion to the scene. There is no music playing unless
you want to count the sounds of sirens, but I would find it hard to dance to that even if I knew
how to dance in the first place. Even the sound quality when dashcams are being used is
downgraded to something more believable since not all dash cams are equped with shotgun mics
and deadcats. At times the sound would even outright ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

camera almost on the floor pointing upward at the two officers as they huddle. The shot lets us
get a good look at their faces and see how nervous they actually are. When the fight begins the
camera almost feels like it s being held by a man holding the camera with two chopsticks. The
fight is very unorchestrated and flows very naturally. It wouldn t be far fetched to think the
director threw the actors in a room and told them figure it out for this scene. There would be no

Information security refers to the protection of information and its critical elements, including the
systems and hardware that use, store, and transmit that information. An ideal organization usually

Thyroid And Menopause
Thyroid and Menopause
For many women during the onset of menopause, the symptoms are typically insomnia, mood
swings, depression and fatigue. However, these symptoms are also the hallmark of a thyroid
disorder, and because the symptoms are so similar, many women who think they are just
experiencing menopause may not seek medical advice about the possibility of a thyroid disorder. To
further complicate the issue, thyroid disorders can be difficult to diagnose. What becomes
important is knowing the differences between a dysfunctional thyroid and menopause.

The Importance Of Youth Sports
Kids love playing sports, and physical activity both provides health benefits and builds character
through being part of a team. However, in many cases, sports can also bring many hardships upon
children and their families. The increasing talent level in professional and collegiate athletics is
causing young athletes to participate in higher levels of sports than are healthy for their developing
bodies. This intensification and specialization of youth sportis causing an abundance of physical
and mental injuries to children and in many cases, the over training causes them to lose love for
their sport. The effects of these injuries may also cause many complications later in life such as
CTE and operations to replace damaged joints and tendons.
The way in which children participate in sports has changed drastically. Playing a variety of
sports for the sake of fun and love of the game, has evolved into extreme training and
specialization in a single sport in attempt to be able to perform adequately at the next level. In the
united states alone, the number of children younger than six on an organized sports team, the
number of traveling leagues for seven and eight year olds, the percentage of specialized high
school athletes, and the number of young olympians, have all risen over the last 15 years (3 ?). It
is commonly argued that this change in philosophy is necessary to propel young athletes to the next
level. However, there is also substantial evidence showing that

The First Retirement Plan Of The United States
The first retirement plan created in the United States, is one that the majority of us are familiar,
the Social Security Act, signed under law in 1935. Up until 1939, Social Security only paid
retirement benefits to primary workers, which for the most part were men. Age 65 was chosen as
the retirement age because individuals who survived past childhood were likely to live past 65.
However, not everyone benefited from such assistance, even after age 65 agricultural and domestic
workers were excluded from coverage (DeWitt, 2010). The excluded group consisted of roughly
half of workers contributing to the economy, which the majority were African Americans.
According to Larry DeWitt, a public historian from the Social Security Administration, exclusion of
such groups was due to tax collection procedures and not due to racial bias. Although it may seem
as though Social Security was meant to be the only form of retirementplan for qualified retirees, it
was not. During such time, many individuals strongly depended on their savings as well as on
their family. Today, the certainty of receiving sufficient benefits solely from Social Security for a
quality standard of living after retirement is indefinite. Baby boomers individuals born post World
War II between 1946 and 1964 are beginning to claim their benefits, and given what I have learned
in class, the number of individuals entering the workforce is inadequate to sustain such a large
population, thus such generation will consume

Death In Romeo And Juliet Essay
Brianna Isabella Reyes Ms. Taccone Period D 11/16/17 The Fault of Death in Romeo and Juliet
I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul. This is a line from a poem written by
William Ernest Henley. Self control is where you control your own fate and you guide your own
soul, Henley expressed this through that quote. His idea can be applied to many things, one
being the story of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. In the story, the characters are big
believers in fate where courses of events are beyond their control. Although some aspects of the
book can be under the impression of fate, death isn t one amongst them. There has been a debate
on whether the tragedy of death is at the person s fault or fate. In Romeo and... Show more content

Tybalt is enraged in the presence of Romeo, let alone the relationship Romeo has with his cousin.
After a brawl between Tybalt and Mercutio, Romeo becomes livid in the moment (3.1). Romeo
feels he should have fought Tybalt instead of Mercutio, who is now dead, because he feels ne
needs to prove his masculinity after entering his relationship. Caught in his own rage, Romeo
pulls out his sword, fights, and kills Tybalt (3.1). Once again, Romeo displays lack of self
control. This fight leads to an even bigger reason for conflict in Juliet and Romeo s marriage,
hence the chain of events leading up to Romeo s death. He could have easily took the time to
evaluate the situation and realize that he didn t need to justify his manliness, not to mention
killing someone. The ultimate example of Romeo s lack of self control is when he finds out
that Juliet is dead . From dramatic irony, we know that Juliet wasn t really dead. Romeo,
however, goes frantic and jumps to far conclusions where he believes that the only way to be
with Juliet is to kill himself (5.1 2). Romeo decides to buy poison for himself before he even
goes to see Juliet! When he does go to Juliet s tomb, he doesn t take time to realize she s only
sleeping. He immediately drinks the poison as a reaction of seeing her in the tomb (5.3). If he

Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale
Love of God replaces love of humanity in Margaret Atwood s, The Handmaid s Tale. Offred s

Sex is made into a ritual for two reasons, both of which revolve around worship of God. First it is
our duty as humans to continue the existence of our species because God intended us to.
Therefore, if people cannot be trusted to procreate independently, reproduction must be
government managed. Secondly, sex for any reason other than for reproductive purposes is
against God s will, so the fundamentalist government in the novel eliminates sex that it not
government run. For religious reasons, Offred s mental and physical well being is not viewed as
important. To put too much emphasis on an individual is to give them an importance outside the
scope of what God intended. As a lieutenant of God on earth, Offred is expected to devote her
entire being to God without concern for her own troubles. The government here tries to force on
its subjects the ultimate piety, wherein all else is absent from life except for God. Finally, the
human form is given little importance here out of respect for God. God intended modesty on the
part of human beings, therefore there are regulations on what the women may wear. The loss of
basic humanity in favor of piety is the central theme of The Handmaid s Tale, and it is this theme
that I attempted to portray in my collection of images.

The Life Of Margaret Sanger And Planned Motherhood
Imagine finding yourself pregnant at the age of 30 with your ninth child. You live in a small
apartment and you are unable to feed all of the members of your large family, also clueless as to
how to prevent future pregnancies. This story would not be too far from reality for many women
over a hundred years ago. It is also similar in ways to the life of Margaret Sanger, a women s rights
activist who is responsible for the family planning movement that started birth control. Margaret
Sanger s mother had 11 children and 18 pregnancies, that definitely took a destructive toll on her
body, and she died at only 46 years old (Yasunari 2000). Margaret took notice of what happened
to her mother and many other women, inspiring her to make it her life s work to help women
have more control over their bodies and families. Margaret s work grew famous for the beginning
of a birth control movement and the later creation of Planned Parenthood, but it also has a
sometimes dark side of eugenics. She went to college to be a nurse and treated many women who
continued to have children, even though they were wishing to prevent pregnancies. Margaret saw a
correlation between impoverished struggling families and having a large number of children.
Margaret referred to women being slaves to their bodies and involuntary motherhood, and also that
by age 35, motherhood often exhausted women s bodies (Katzive 2015). She also probably noticed
how desperate some women were to prevent pregnancies.

John K, Thornton s African Dimension Of The Stono Rebellion
On September 9, 1739, the Stono Rebellion took place in the colony of South Carolina. The
slaves, lead by an Angolan named Jemmy, stunned the plantation owners in their revolt against
their oppressive lifestyle. Their goal was to march all the way to Spanish Florida, but they were
eventually stopped by the militia. In total, about 60 white civilians were killed and many more
slaves experienced the same fate. This was such a significant uprising, not only because of the
lack of information we have about rebellions in general, but because it showed that slaves had the
ability to revolt against the harsh lifestyle that was forced upon them. While most historians can
agree that this was one of the most influential revolts, the best way to interpret this event is still
debated. Some historians, like William Stephen, hone in on the aspect of competition in his piece
Spanish Designs and Slave Resistance . While other look at specific factors. For example, John K,
Thornton sees that the best way to view the Stono Rebellionis to look at the African background of
slaves in his essay, African Dimension of the Stono Rebellion . Edward A Pearson, for example,
asserts gender is the way to comprehend this revolt in his essay Rebelling As Men . All of these
historians address important factors of the Stono Rebellion, however in order to best understand the
Stono Rebellion one must consider both gender and African background and how it increased

a success was the French government. The government decided to expand the Paris railway and

Gk Chesterton Maniac Summary
Maniac , a chapter of Orthodoxy, was written by G.K. Chesterton to shine a light on the common

think without the proper first principles goes mad... In this quote, Chesterton describes how
difficult it is to think and interpret new information if you are not ready. He is explaining that if
someone takes in too much information that is too advanced, they may not respond to it very
well. For example, if someone was not taught how to do simple addition, how will they be able to

One quote to describe this is, He has always had one foot in earth and the other in fairyland. It
implies that the common man is content with seeing both worlds. Next, Chesterton uses the

unknown in his life. The common man understands that he does not know everything, and
accepts it. This is what keeps him sane. He either does not want to learn everything, since it
would make him unhappy, or he is not aware of his ignorance. He is able to acknowledge the
paradox, and not question it. The people who choose to try and learn everything become insane.
They are unable to fathom the horrors of the world and unwilling to accept the paradoxes. The
choice of insanity is a decision that everyone needs to make at some point. To learn too much and
be unhappy, or be naive to all of the dangers and threats of the world. Additionally, Chesterton
writes about the morbid logicians. The morbid logicians are the teachers, authors, and artists of the

Franz Joseph Haydn s Symphony No. 94 Symphony
When listening to Classical music I think of rich, precise, high quality, and pristine music that
either gives you relaxing feeling or gives you that want to dance feeling. One of my favorite
composers of this era was Franz Joseph Haydn and he incorporated both of these feelings in his
arrangements.
Franz Joseph Haydn was born in 1732 in Austria. He struggled early in life and worked as a
freelance musician. He began his career singing soprano at Saint Stephen s Cathedral and later
started giving keyboard lessons, playing in street bands, and singing or playing violin and organ at
three different churches every Sunday (Wright, C. M., 2014, p.159, para. 2). In 1779, Haydn

94 Surprise Symphony. The genre of this musical composition is a symphony and it consists of a
three movement minuet and trio. The piece has a stately dance feel to it with a very solid rhythm,
nice melody, and a rich full sound. It is written in ternary form and the entire minuet trio minuet
forms an ABA arrangement (Wright, C.M., 2014, p. 166). The divisions between sections of the
piece are well indicated and recognized by a change of theme, instrumentation, and volume. I really
liked the way the timpani helped accentuate the beat and help give the piece a driving tempo at
times. The woodwinds and strings also flowed well together as if telling a story. Some of the things
that stuck out to me and make this an enjoyable symphony were the rich full sound of the orchestra
instruments along with the bouncy rhythm and tempo. While listening to the arrangement I could

And this can be an excellent way of marketing to people from diverse demographics.
For example, a strict organic food restaurant can attract customers from diverse age groups and not
only the elderly. This is because even the younger generation are now keener on their health.
Therefore psychographic segmentation focuses on the following: Lifestyle, social class, personality,
interests and values of the consumers.
Behavioral
As its name suggests, behavioral segmentation targets how people behave. This however, emanates
from a customers response to, use or knowledge of to a certain product.
For example, you will target your Valentines day customers from as early as the first day of

The Testament Of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is known by many people throughout the world as the incarnation of God. Christians
believe in one God who is three persons. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit is called the Trinity.
The second person, God the son also known as the Word of God became a man to save the human
race. He was born in the city of Bethlehem in Israel. He was known as Jesusof Nazareth, or Jesus
son of Joseph and Mary, or Jesus the son of the carpenter. As he became known and respected as a
wise and holy man, people realized that there was much more to him. As knowledge of him
increased among his followers, people began to call him Christ, which means Anointed . They came
to understand that he was the fulfillment of the prophesies of the Old Testament. The Old Testament
is first half of the Bible. This is what the Jewish people believe to be the complete Bible. The
Bible is believed to be the inspired word of God. It is God s teachings and communications to the
human race which reveals his love for us and how he wants us to live. As an expression of his
love he promised to send a messiah or savior to save us and help us live happier lives now and go
to heaven after we die. It contains several prophecies that prepare us to recognize the true savior
when he comes. Christians believe that the savior prophesied in the Old Testament is Jesus. The
New Testament is the other half of the Bible that Christians believe is also the inspired word of
God. The New Testament shows how Jesus is

The Normative View Of Christianity
Christianity is a widespread religion that reaches many different cultures and places all around the
world. Since it is such a widespread religion there are many types of interpretations that can be
developed based off the words and teachings of the Bible. Most commonly we have the normative
view of Christianity. The normative view can most basically be understood as the highly shared
teachings of churches. Another type of interpretation that encompasses all beliefs that are not
compliant with the normative view is called esoteric. Here we will compare the interpretations of
Daskalos, the Great Teacher of Cypress, and his Researchers of Truth against the normative view
of Christianity as understood by both Catholics and Protestants. In order to further investigate the
differences between Daskalos esoteric beliefs and normative beliefs we must understand fully
what esoteric and normative truly mean. A few beliefs of normative Christianity, as explained by
Moreman, are as follows: the belief in judgement after death. There are only 2 places to go, hellor
heavenand that may or may not be after a slight stop in purgatory, the intermediate state of being
right after death where souls await resurrection (Moreman, 62). When the resurrection happens,
people will be resurrected in their physical bodies, thanks to interpretations by St. Augustine of
Hippo (Moreman, 62). Those souls or people that are evil will spend eternity in hell in fiery
damnation (Moreman, 63). The beliefs of

Paper 5 Anatomy/Physiology of the Special Senses (vision/auditory)
Color Perception
Visual processing in our brain cannot be done without actual vision. The anatomy of the eye is
carefully arranged with all the parts that assist our vision in an optimal way. A layer of connective
tissue called the sclera surrounds the eyeball. Underneath it is the choroid, which is rich in blood
vessels that supply the eye. Attached to this layer is the lens by cililary muscles. The lens focus
light to the retina and the amount of light entering is controlled by pupil dilation or constriction.
Pupil dilation and constriction is regulated by the iris of the eye which consist of two layers of
smooth muscle layers that contract or constrict to increase or decrease the diameter of the pupil
respectively. The retina is the inner most layer of the eye. It the main site of photoreceptors that
convert light energy into electrical energy where the information gets sent to the brain and is what
we perceive as vision. (Marieb, 2014)
Two types of photoreceptors can be found in the retina, the rods and cones. Rods are mainly
responsible for scoptic vision thus mostly reactive in dim lighting. Cones are responsible for
photopicvision, which provides color under bright light conditions. When it is dark out, only the
rods are active so you see monochromatic vision. There are three types of cones S, M and L that
respond to different wavelengths. Each rod and cone contains two parts the

Micro Celebrity Performance Analysis
Beginning around 2003, new kinds of websites and services appeared that made it much easier for
people to assemble multifaceted networks devoted to the cataloguing and exchange of personal
information and content. On Valentine s Day of 2005 one of these multifaceted networks, YouTube,
was founded. The ability to Broadcast Yourself through user generated videos opened space for new
digital communities where people could create videos, share them, comment on them, and manifest
large public responses to them. Seven years later YouTubeis now home to billions of viewers who
upload more than 100 million videos per day and is the hub for the self marketing of, the now

However, due to the affinity brought about by the structure of YouTube as a community driven
SNS, this selective performance becomes a fully adopted identity. This selective identity is who
your audience knows you by as this is the only aspect of yourself you portray to them. It is also
who they have decided to embrace into their community and create bonds of affinity with.
Therefore for YouTube personalities, they become this person to the world rather than simply
portray it. It is as simple as being, for example an actor plays the part of a character in a movie
and then takes off that mask when they step back into the real world. Rather it is showcasing a
selective part of your true personality and then becoming that part of your personality to the world.
This is the difference between the new micro YouTube celebrity and traditional celebrities:

The European Union is known as a economic and political union that has 28 member states around

covering policy areas, from climate, environment and health to external relations and security,
justice and migration (Ayiekoh, 2016).

Benjamin Franklin And The Education Of Youth
Benjamin Franklin observed in 1747, It has long been regretted as a misfortune to the youth of this
province that we have no academy in which they might receive the accomplishment of a regular
education, instead of just perceiving that fact and being disappointed, Franklin decided to act. He
noted that Massachusetts had Harvard, established 1636, and Virginia claimed William and Mary,
established 1693, he did not want Pennsylvaniato fall behind. This prompted him to write an
anonymous pamphlet in 1747 entitled, Proposals relating to the Educationof Youth in Pennsylvania.
The pamphlet argued for the necessity of a college and urged concerned citizens to donate money
toward it. It was not until Franklin wrote his autobiography that the world knew it was he who
wrote Proposals relating to the Education of Youth in Pennsylvania. Franklin was shifting gears
during this time of his life. He was forty three years old, a wealthy printer, but he retried, tackling
non commercial pursuits like science, politics, and education. This is when he observed that lack of
higher education available in Pennsylvania. He longed to open a school for boys that would teach
them the practical skills needed in their future endeavors. He stated, Students preparing for the
ministry or medicine would study classical languages, while those becoming merchants would
focus upon living languages. In addition, Franklin hoped that all students would learn practical
skills, including planting and

Privacy In Demand Essay
Like most countries and especially the United States their inhabitants enjoy a certain level of
privacy. People don t generally want intimate information to be accessible to the public eye. In fact
many people go to great lengths to hide everything about themselves. What exactly is the definition
of privacy? Well, privacy is the expectation that confidential personal informationdisclosed in a
private place will not be disclosed to third parties, when that disclosure would cause either
embarassment or emotional distress to a person of reasonable sensitivities. This information
includes facts, images (ex: photographs and videotapes), and disparaging opinions. When over

It sounds like these two laws should cover everyones privacy without too much of a problem.
However, this is not the case. There is an immense amount of information floating around that is
concidered public domain. Take for example the drivers license. Every drivers license contains a
name, birthdate, home mailing address, license number, physical description failures to appear in
court, failures to pay traffic fines, license status, and major convictions up to and including the past
seven years. It does not end there. The Department of Motor Vehicles contains information that is
commonly and routinely consulted by employers, insurace companies, attorneys, and private
investigators. What kind of information are these people trying to access. Well, that would include
just about everything about your car such as its make, its owner and even the lienholder if the loan
for the vehicle has not been paid in full. This information that is being collected by these third
party groups is not being researched with the same intention that it was collected for. This is also
wrong.
What about court records. Unless those record involve a juvenile, they are usually public. Propety
records are also open for public inspection. When a home or other real estate is

Anaconda Analysis
Operation Anaconda: Lessons of Unsound Planning
For the first eighteen days of March in the spring of 2002, coalition forces fought Al Qaeda and
the Taliban for the Shah i Kot Valley. The operation was named Anaconda because the intent of the
coalition forces was to surround and squeeze the Al Qaeda and Talibanforces in the Shah i Kot
Valley into suppression and destroy them. Operation Anaconda was the most aggressive plan of
Operation Enduring Freedom to that point, and ultimately, was a decisive coalition victory that
resulted in fragmented enemy forces in the area for years. However, during Operation Anaconda,
the Coalition Joint Task Force Commander and his staff made fundamental errors in the Joint
Operation Planning Process (JOPP) through assumptions, command relations, and unity of
command.
Assumptions
The United States Army 10th Mountain Division Commander (CJTF Mountain) accepted the
command and planning of Operation Anaconda in early February. The overall plan, originally
devised and designed by Special Operation Forces Command, called for coalition forces led by
Afghan Soldiers to drive into the Shah i Kot Valley while other U.S. forces and Afghan troops held
a blocking position. Based on intelligence estimates, CJTF Mountain and his staff planned for the
Al Qaeda and Taliban forces to flee into the mountains where U.S. forces were waiting to capture
them. Unfortunately, CJTF Mountain and his staff made many assumptions based on unverified
data in regards

The Last Rung Of The Latter Short Story
In The Last Rung of the Latter by Stephen King, Larry, the narrator receives a letter from his
younger sister, Kitty, that she wrote before she committed suicide. Larry retells a story from
their childhood in which he saved Kitty s life after she climbed a broken latter while they were
playing a game. In this short story Larry is forced to come to terms with his sister s death and
deal with the guilt of not being able to save her this time. The change of setting, the theme of
guilt, and the use of symbolism all greatly add to the meaning of this short story. The contrast in
setting in The Last Rung Of The Latter is used to show a change in feeling and mood as the
characters grow older. Larry describes the morning of the accident fondly, remembering how
good the barn felt that day. When he begins talking about the day in the barn, Larry says, On a
day like that, the only really nice place to be was the barn. It was warm, filled with a pleasant
mixed aroma of hay and fur and dung, and with the mysterious clucking, cooing sounds of the
barn swallows high up in the third loft. (King 2). This quote indicates that Larry thought of the
barn as a homey and warm place. He does not dislike the setting of his childhood home, despite the
fact that is sister almost died on his terms while they were there. On the contrary, when Larry
speaks about where he lives in the present he seems to resent the constant moving and changing of
his life. Larry even says that, People move around

  • 2. What Does The Mask Symbolize In Lord Of The Flies Similar to William Golding s idea of mankind, William James, who was an American philosopher, had the idea that, We are all ready to be savage in some cause. The difference between a good man and a bad one is the choice of the cause. This idea transfers nicely to William Goldings book, Lord of the Flies, which follows British boys who have been stranded on a deserted island, and now must survive, using their surroundings, as well as their wit. However, it isn t all smooth sailing for the boys, and eventually almost all of them become savagelike, and disconnected from the outside world. The conch, and the maskare both important symbolsin the book, that demonstrate how the boys turn from innocent school boys to unforgiving beasts, capable of evil. The biggest, and one of the most influential symbols in the book, the conch, plays a major role in showing the boys decline into savagery. When Lord of the Flies begins the first characters we see are Ralph and Piggy, Piggy being the first to discover a conch shell, that he gives to Ralph who says, Seems to me we need to have a chief to decide things (22). This marks the first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Goldings showed the boys decent into savagery with these two symbols to prove his point that even young boys can become evil. He also makes it a point, that without some form of authority, or organization, we would all end up with the same fate as Simon and Piggy. However, he also doesn t completely disregard the idea of savagery, as becoming savage is ultimately what gets them rescued, implying that savagery and order are intertwined more than it may seem. In conclusion, Goldings message is that all human nature is corrupt, including boys that were innocent before the island, and boys that no longer be the same after the ... • 3. Essay on Account For the Success of the Bolsheviks in... Account For the Success of the Bolsheviks in October 1917 At the beginning of 1917 most of the Bolsheviks were in exile but by the end of 1917 the Bolshevik party had not only consolidated control of Moscow and Petrograd, but they were also advancing on the rest of the country. This success was due to several linked factors; the Bolshevik policy of non cooperation, weakness of the Provisional Government, division of alternative opposition, Lenin s leadership skills, the power of the Petrograd Soviet and Trotsky as its leader, failure on deliver of land reform and the oppressed, armed workers in Petrograd. Bolshevik success is dictated by whether they met their aims; these included the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although, we must remember, that Lenin had incorrectly pushed for an unsuccessful revolution in July. Lenin is famed to have said, History will not forgive us if we do not assume power, Lenin chose, successfully, when to seize power. The Weaknesses of the Provisional Government were as much, if not more to blame than the successes of the Bolsheviks for the Socialist Revolution. The Provisional Government was delicate by its very nature, it was not democratically elected, it was illegitimate, and had no mandate to rule. Why should opposition groups recognise such a government? The Bolsheviks were careful not to affiliate itself with the Provisional Government because it wanted to disassociate itself from government s many failed policies and it also wanted to remain a small, hardcore, tightly knit net of ardent Marxists, without any Bourgeois influences. The Provisional Government s failed policies stemmed from its weak, fragmented coalition. The Octoberists were on the centre right as they agreed with the Tsar s October Manifesto, which had ended the 1905 Revolution. The Cadets (Constitutional Democrats) were the moderate, liberals of the centre of the political spectrum. On the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Beryl Markham s West With The Night West with the Night is an autobiography by Beryl Markham, who is a pilot is Africa. In her book she juxtaposes Africa and London and then extends that juxtaposition to stand for the universal feelings of boredom and freedom. She chooses events from her job that highlight the difference between Africa and London to characterize herself as exotic and unique. She opens this excerpt by telling the story of transporting life saving oxygen to a dying old man. By choosing to reveal to us important and dangerous events from her job she reveals that she thinks of herself as adventurous, out of the box, and a hero. In the beginning of this excerpt she compares her life in Africa where she claims she was unable to discuss the boredom of being alive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We know from her description of London that she abhors being bored and she suggests that boredom is tied to loneliness in her description of her life in Africa. In spite of this she confesses that Night flying over charted country by aid of instruments and radio guidance can still be a lonely business, but to fly in unbroken darkness without even the cold companionship of a pair of earphones or the knowledge that somewhere ahead are lights and life and a well marked airport is something more than just lonely. The experience of that something that is more than just lonely appears to be the thing that she dislikes most about her job but she doesn t hesitate to night fly if someone should require her assistance. She doesn t give any mind to the physical danger that is a part of flying an airplane at night instead her only concern is whether or not she will be bored. Clearly for Markham her greatest fear is not death but it is the experience of being under stimulated. It is clear from her description of her job that countless times she has gone up into that airplane anyways and faced her worst fear. In doing so Markham shows herself to be someone who is willing to sacrifice herself to help someone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Social Concentration Theory Analysis The social penetration theory asserts that as a relationship develops it can develop a person s communication from superficial to deeply personal topics, and it can slowly penetrate the communicators public persona to reach their core personality or sense of self. A person can allow others to penetrate their public self when they disclose personal information. The decision to disclose is based on the perceived rewards the person will gain if he or she will disclose. Altman and Dalmas used ideas from the social exchangetheory to develop the idea of regulating closeness with rewards and cost. The rewards must out weight the cost in any relationship. Altman and Dalmas compare people to onions due to the deception of the multilayered structure of personality. The outer layer is the public layer, and we peel back the layers to the deeper, more vulnerable, and private thoughts, beliefs, and values. In order for these layers to be penetrated, one has to go through self disclosure. Self disclosure is voluntary sharing that leads to reciprocity; reciprocity is the openness in one person that leads to openness in others. Also, within self disclosure is depth and breadth, the... • 7. The Social Contract Account Of Justice By John Rawls Rawls Paper The original position is a major theme in the social contract account of justice by John Rawls. By design, it should be a fair point of view for any person desiring to be impartial in their reasoning, regarding the basic principles of justice (Anderson et al. 2014). When a person adopts this point of view, they imagine themselves in a position of equal persons who are committed to the principles of political and social justice. One of its distinguishing features is the veil of ignorance. In this paper, the case of a defendant found guilty of second degree murderis presented. A stakeholder s position is first given on the matter. It is followed by the revised position under the veil of ignorance. It also contains a discussion of the ways in which stances have changed from the assigned identity s perspective to the Rawl s veil of significance perspective. Introduction to the concepts The original position is a situation that occurs hypothetically. The parties in the original position select the principles that determine the structure of their society. The parties make the choice behind a veil of ignorance that is meant to deprive them of any information concerning their characteristics. The kind of information eliminated include their gender, ethnicity, social status, and the concept of the good. It means the participants must select the principles rationally and impartially. It was also noted that laws and regulations were formulated based on unethical principles that took place in the past. The most obvious ones were the Tuskegee syphilis study, where the black male were used for the experiment. This study comprised of 600 African American men, about 400 with syphilis cases and 200 men without syphilis, in other words, the control group. And many of them died due to the study. It was discovered that none of them were informed about the possible cure, neither were they treated with antibiotic (http:/ /phrp.nihtraining.com). Also, another unethical research practice conducted was the Nazi Medical War Crime, in this experiment, thousands of prisoners were tortured by injecting them with gasoline and live viruses, immersing them in ice water and forcing them to ingest poisons. Based on the information gathered from the reading, I have realized that before an individual become part of a research study, there has to be an informed consent. Informed consent promotes autonomy, which brings about respect for the person s dignity. Therefore, in order to protect the participants in research, the ethical principles have to be followed. • 12. Common Core Stat Standards ( Ccss ) An Introduction of the Topic Common Core Stat Standards (CCSS) is an interesting topic of discussion and debate because it is such a charged topic. CCSS are a set of standards that are set equally amongst all states, as opposed to states creating their own standards, with significant monetary benefits for states that accept and exceed standards set by CCSS. This topic in particular is interesting because of how politically charged it is. Some individuals think of it as a big government takeover of what should be handled at a local level, or at the very highest, state level. These standards are important to nearly every aspect of education: teachers, school administration, students, parents, lawmakers, and even textbook and test authors. My treatment of the CCSS standards is fair, however, I willingly admit that I do take a few punches at those who willingly misinterpret the very excellent goals of CCSS. Historical Overview The road to what is called Common Core is one of evolution of the methods of Education. The idea of Common Core is to increase the benchmark that students at the end of their high school careers are able to meet in order to better prepare students for life after high school, be it college or the working world. The idea of creating a rigorous set of standards for students heading to college is not a new notion. I think that this photo became so popular and considered historic because it has been a symbol of our military s patriotism and valor America s strength, honor, and brotherhood. A strength that cannot be shaken, honor that cannot be abjured, and a brotherhood that cannot be broken. The battle for Iwo Jima was a bloody battle against the Japanese forces. The island took the heaviest and longest bombardment compared to any battles in the Pacific during the war ( Battle for Iwo Jima, 1945 , 1960). • 15. The Influence Of The Victorian Era How long did the Victorian Era last? Queen Victoria of England ruled the throne for over 64 years, however her impact made the Victorian era last for a 150 year. The Victorian era was most known for its censorship and proper allegations. For example, men were supposed to be hard workers and protectors of the house and family. Subsequently, women were suited to a role that limited their abilities as a citizen as compared to today, which included household chores and such. Lastly, children were to be quite and did not spend much time with their mothers and fathers. Due to society s own harsh expectations of themselves, it impacted other aspects of their lives. This impacted literature and is a major time when authors had to use more profound and deeper meaning to events in stories to get inappropriate points across that would otherwise be censored. With this, the ideas in literature reflect ideas that are found during the Victorian erabecause of its characters reactions and events that were censored. The novel Dracula, by Bram Stoker, uses the Victorian era s ideology to influence the story and its characters to convey the Victorian s beliefs in their society. Firstly, Draculauses sexual inferences as a way to reflect Victorian beliefs that would be seen as villainous or crude because of their ideas. Undoubtedly, Dracula has inferred sexual messages to the reader for moods towards the characters. When Jonathan writes in his journal about his meeting with Dracula, he ... The First Retirement Plan Of The United States The first retirement plan created in the United States, is one that the majority of us are familiar, the Social Security Act, signed under law in 1935. Up until 1939, Social Security only paid retirement benefits to primary workers, which for the most part were men. Age 65 was chosen as the retirement age because individuals who survived past childhood were likely to live past 65. However, not everyone benefited from such assistance, even after age 65 agricultural and domestic workers were excluded from coverage (DeWitt, 2010). The excluded group consisted of roughly half of workers contributing to the economy, which the majority were African Americans. According to Larry DeWitt, a public historian from the Social Security Administration, exclusion of such groups was due to tax collection procedures and not due to racial bias. Although it may seem as though Social Security was meant to be the only form of retirementplan for qualified retirees, it was not. During such time, many individuals strongly depended on their savings as well as on their family. Today, the certainty of receiving sufficient benefits solely from Social Security for a quality standard of living after retirement is indefinite. Secondly, sex for any reason other than for reproductive purposes is against God s will, so the fundamentalist government in the novel eliminates sex that it not government run. You live in a small apartment and you are unable to feed all of the members of your large family, also clueless as to how to prevent future pregnancies. This story would not be too far from reality for many women over a hundred years ago. It is also similar in ways to the life of Margaret Sanger, a women s rights activist who is responsible for the family planning movement that started birth control. Margaret Sanger s mother had 11 children and 18 pregnancies, that definitely took a destructive toll on her body, and she died at only 46 years old (Yasunari 2000). Margaret took notice of what happened to her mother and many other women, inspiring her to make it her life s work to help women have more control over their bodies and families. Margaret s work grew famous for the beginning of a birth control movement and the later creation of Planned Parenthood, but it also has a sometimes dark side of eugenics. • 34. John K, Thornton s African Dimension Of The Stono Rebellion On September 9, 1739, the Stono Rebellion took place in the colony of South Carolina. The slaves, lead by an Angolan named Jemmy, stunned the plantation owners in their revolt against their oppressive lifestyle. Their goal was to march all the way to Spanish Florida, but they were eventually stopped by the militia. In total, about 60 white civilians were killed and many more slaves experienced the same fate. This was such a significant uprising, not only because of the lack of information we have about rebellions in general, but because it showed that slaves had the ability to revolt against the harsh lifestyle that was forced upon them. While most historians can agree that this was one of the most influential revolts, the best way to interpret this event is still debated. Some historians, like William Stephen, hone in on the aspect of competition in his piece Spanish Designs and Slave Resistance . While other look at specific factors. For example, John K, Thornton sees that the best way to view the Stono Rebellionis to look at the African background of slaves in his essay, African Dimension of the Stono Rebellion . Edward A Pearson, for example, asserts gender is the way to comprehend this revolt in his essay Rebelling As Men . All of these historians address important factors of the Stono Rebellion, however in order to best understand the Stono Rebellion one must consider both gender and African background and how it increased competition between the English and ... After seeing how successful the two theme parks in the United States were doing, the next option would be to expand. Another great contribution to making Disney Paris a success was the French government. The government decided to expand the Paris railway and connect it to the park. This would allow the park to be joined to the rest of Europe. 4.In my opinion, yes, I think that Disney should set up a park in Shanghai. The other parks that have been opened and running for a few years have shown great success. I think this is a perfect city to create and begin another Disney theme park. Shanghai is a successful and fast growing city full of trading and profit. To begin, he writes, reason used without root, reason in the void. The man who begins to think without the proper first principles goes mad... In this quote, Chesterton describes how difficult it is to think and interpret new information if you are not ready. He is explaining that if someone takes in too much information that is too advanced, they may not respond to it very well. For example, if someone was not taught how to do simple addition, how will they be able to subtract, multiply, or divide without becoming annoyed and giving up? The common man understands that he does not know everything, and accepts it. This is what keeps him sane. He either does not want to learn everything, since it would make him unhappy, or he is not aware of his ignorance. He is able to acknowledge the paradox, and not question it. The people who choose to try and learn everything become insane. They are unable to fathom the horrors of the world and unwilling to accept the paradoxes. Franz Joseph Haydn s Symphony No. 94 Symphony When listening to Classical music I think of rich, precise, high quality, and pristine music that either gives you relaxing feeling or gives you that want to dance feeling. One of my favorite composers of this era was Franz Joseph Haydn and he incorporated both of these feelings in his arrangements. Franz Joseph Haydn was born in 1732 in Austria. He struggled early in life and worked as a freelance musician. He began his career singing soprano at Saint Stephen s Cathedral and later started giving keyboard lessons, playing in street bands, and singing or playing violin and organ at three different churches every Sunday (Wright, C. The genre of this musical composition is a symphony and it consists of a three movement minuet and trio. The piece has a stately dance feel to it with a very solid rhythm, nice melody, and a rich full sound. It is written in ternary form and the entire minuet trio minuet forms an ABA arrangement (Wright, C.M., 2014, p. 166). The divisions between sections of the piece are well indicated and recognized by a change of theme, instrumentation, and volume. I really liked the way the timpani helped accentuate the beat and help give the piece a driving tempo at times. The woodwinds and strings also flowed well together as if telling a story. Some of the things that stuck out to me and make this an enjoyable symphony were the rich full sound of the orchestra instruments along with the bouncy rhythm and tempo. While listening to the arrangement I could hardly sit still, the music just made me want to move with it. It gave me the mental image of a large stately ballroom with numerous dancers dancing about. Since it is such a widespread religion there are many types of interpretations that can be developed based off the words and teachings of the Bible. Most commonly we have the normative view of Christianity. The normative view can most basically be understood as the highly shared teachings of churches. Another type of interpretation that encompasses all beliefs that are not compliant with the normative view is called esoteric. Here we will compare the interpretations of Daskalos, the Great Teacher of Cypress, and his Researchers of Truth against the normative view of Christianity as understood by both Catholics and Protestants. In order to further investigate the differences between Daskalos esoteric beliefs and normative beliefs we must understand fully what esoteric and normative truly mean. A few beliefs of normative Christianity, as explained by Moreman, are as follows: the belief in judgement after death. There are only 2 places to go, hellor heavenand that may or may not be after a slight stop in purgatory, the intermediate state of being right after death where souls await resurrection (Moreman, 62). Underneath it is the choroid, which is rich in blood vessels that supply the eye. Attached to this layer is the lens by cililary muscles. The lens focus light to the retina and the amount of light entering is controlled by pupil dilation or constriction. Pupil dilation and constriction is regulated by the iris of the eye which consist of two layers of smooth muscle layers that contract or constrict to increase or decrease the diameter of the pupil respectively. The retina is the inner most layer of the eye.
