New widgets: mini badges & blog sidebar widgets

by amit on January 17, 2008

Slideshare is getting widgetised! We’ve got tons of feedback from our users asking for diff kinds of widgets. So we have added a “Widgets” tab to our top navigation. This takes you to the widgets page where you can (currently) choose from two types- the Mini Badges & the Blog Sidebar Widget.

Mini Badges: These provide a way of linking to your slideshare presentations from your blog or website; the badges are small and can fit in just about anywhere…. examples below

Blog Sidebar Widget: These are essentially slideshow feeds that can be embedded into your blog’s sidebar; you can choose to show your own slideshare presentations, or from your favorites, groups, events etc. You can also show slides from a particular tag. Just grab the embed code and put into your blog’s sidebar template…examples below

We plan to add a couple of other widgets to our collection…stay tuned. And do let us know how you liked the current ones!

Thanks for adding the widgets. I guess they will be lapped up by the users soon.

How about doing something for users like me who do not have a blog (I hope you do not say ‘create one!’)
Or maintain one (too lazy, rather than too busy to do – to be honest!)

I am trying to add the blog sidebar widget and want to adjust the height (code creates height the same as the above example on the left, I want it to be shorter like the above example on the right). When I go into the code and reduce the height from the default of 725 to anything less, it also reduces the width. How can reduce the height without also reducing the width? Thanks.

Actually I did add this widget on my blog, but firstly I had a hard time fixing the bug, but for now. so far so good! I like the output of my blog and seems very detailed.

I don’t like embedding foreign javascript on my site, it makes it vulnerable. I’d rather have straight html, like this widget.
