New Social Features on SlideShare

We just released new features to enable public and private messaging on SlideShare.

Pinging - Ping is a short public message which appears on profile pages. So, now you can leave messages on other people’s profile pages. Just browse to the profile page of the person you want to ping (make sure you are logged into your account) and click the ‘Ping user’ link just below the profile box (as below). Write your message and hit ‘Submit’. Your ping will appear instantly in the Ping box (as below).

There is also a Pings page (as below) where all the pings on a particular user are displayed.

One can choose whether they want to let everyone ping them, or just their contacts by editing their profile.

Messaging - You can send private message to other SlideShare users by messaging them. Browse to the profile page of the person you want to message (make sure you are logged into your account) and click the ‘Message user’ link just below the Ping user link (as below). Write your message and hit ‘Send’. Your message will be sent as an email to the user. You can choose to receive a copy of the message by checking ’send me a copy’.

One can choose whether they want to let everyone message them, or just their contacts by editing their profile.
